  • Aluminum driveshaft on 97 WS6's from factory?

I know there is a TSB out on the driveshaft vibration for early 4th gen's, but does it include 97's or did they come with aluminum shafts from the factory? If they were included in the TSB, is there a time limit for getting them replaced and can you do it if you're not the original owner of the car?

    Thanks,

If your car has one it is either a purchased item or from the TSB. They were not stock that your unless you ordered the 1LE option.

It is too late to get a free one under the TSB.. Your warranty is expired.

If you call GM they will pay half of the cost of a new aluminum DS. The catch is you have to take your stock steel DS and pay to have a balance check performed. The company that performed the balance check will then fax GM the details and they will then pay half.

I did this with GM. I paid $55 to have the balancing tests done, but in the long run I still saved about $200 on a aluminum DS so it was worth the time, money, and effort. Be prepared to talk on the phone quite a bit with GM.
