  • dash pads for third gens= big $$

This is just crazy, and I think I just had a good 'get rich quick' idea. I was looking for a dash pad for my 82 and ebay was the first place I went. All of them were from 76$ and up, there were 3 or four listed. so I went to the local junkyard....the were a whopping 12.50$. Why such a high demand for these? are they cracked often? and why are people willing to pay SO much for them? It seems to me that all interior parts are very expensive for these cars..ie; carpet, panels, sterring wheels, etc.

    82 z28 w/ 305 (for now) 4 speed saginaw
    82 berrlinetta with 350 .060 over...3 speed auto

The Z28 is back under the knife, after the transmission, now its the entire engine....will post pics when all finished.

Parts for the 3rd gens are high. A new dash pad from the dealer, if availabe, runs well over $200. Used ones in good condition are hard to find because they do crack, rather easily, and in extremely cold weather are suject to cracking if you just happen to hit them too hard (or bump the edge with your knee getting in the car--I did this twice wih my 92 RS.)

I know that I went through multiple dashboards on both 3rd gens I had. The sharp front corners always seemed to get hit and sort of shatter, leaving a big ugly hole. I have found that things tend too sell for too much on ebay in general. A little extra work will usually save you some money. But I really don't know why people would pay THAT much more on ebay.
