  • Is this a good buy?

I've been talking to a guy in Washington state about a race car he has for sale. It is a 1997 Camaro Z-28. The car has no motor or tranny, but as some of you know I am putting together a solid roller LT4 right now.

He is asking $7500 as it sits. He has $4000 just in the 9" rear end! He is supposed to be e-mailing me some pics tonight so as soon as he does I will post them.

What do you think, is this worth the drive drom SA,TX? I am considering selling my stripped 97 WS6 as a project car for this car. Let me know your thoughts.

If it looks as good in person, jump on it. Almost "plug-n-play".

I'd be interested in seeing how they did the Quay spoiler.

Exactly what I was thinking! I'll see if I can get some pics of the Ed quay spoiler.

Just for an interesting bit of info, he is also selling a pretty nasty LT1 based solid roller motor for $13,000. This is a super deal considering what he has invested in it. If I didn't have a motor I would have jumped on this too!

I'll take the heads and cam.

This is not a Quay, but it "works"....

Is that George Baxter's Z? Looks sweet!

Are you serious about the heads and cam? If so I will ask him for a price. He said he didn't mind separating the top end from the bottom end.

285/295 at .050". WOW that baby should bump!

I'd love the heads, but lack the funds!! I really need to rethink my whole car.... it was originally built as a "street" car... fully NJ rolling emissions compliant. Hence a very mild cam and not much in the way of heads. It was only after NJ started using the DMV (aka "smog Nazi's") Mobile Inspection Teams for roadside visual and rolling emissions checks that I decided it wasn't worth driving the car on the street any more. B-I-G heads (although not sure if I would depart from 23deg heads, since many classes limit head selection) and a really hairy cam would probably wake the engine up.

Yes, that's George's car. Should go on the chassis dyno in the next few days. He's trying to make the PRO/Edelbrock Xtreme Street event at Atco (NJ) May 21-23. We're still trying to get weight out of it..... convertibles are pigs.

383 on a Dart Iron Eagle block
Brodix 23deg heads (limited by class rules)
                  Vortech twin air/water I/C S/C
                  MoTeC engine management
                  Art Carr TH400
                  Moser 9-inch
Steve Spohn suspension (completely "stock" style)

All fits under the stock SS hood....

What kind of power is George expecting to make? Joe Overton made a little over 821 fly hp through 23* heads N/A. He won't tell me the solid roller cam specs , but I've heard rumor it is in the 280 dur range @ .050 on intake, and over .720 intake lift.

Our 23* heads can rock and roll too!

Know anyone who wants to buy a project 97 green WS6?

Good to hear your street machine is going full on race. I've been doing lot's of research on solid roller LT1 based combos lately. I realy want to get my solid roller 383 dialed in.

It looks like I am going to sell my AS&M 58mm TB and my fully ported LT4 intake if your interested. PM me and I will make you a very fair deal. I am probably going with a custom sheetmetal intake.

The engine dyno in PRO trim showed 1,325HP. He figures he can get it closer to 1,500 outside the PRO limits... e.g. twin I/C, vs only one I/C allowed by PRO Xtreme Street.

                        I have a 58mm TB and a very good LT4 intake already.

1500 hp and a 3000lb raceweight should be enough to earn a very low 8 second if not a 7 second timeslip.

It is mind boggling how many LT1/LS1 motors are making more than 1500 fwhp this season! Some big turbo LS1's getting very close to the 2000 mark.

Its not an LT1.... its a SBC 1 Dart Iron Eagle. George and Madman both pushed the LT1 block to 1,100-1,200HP and decided it just wouldn't last reliably beyond that point.

You have to run 8.4-seconds in Xtreme Street to be competetive. His weight will be about 3,450# because of the convertible body. And car must have full interior, etc. That's also close to minimum allowable weight for the class, after you factor in the cubic inches and the S/C.
