  • K&N Fuel Injection Performance Kit

I stopped by Advance Auto Parts here in Dayton, Ohio today. I was looking for a locking gas cap when we were talking about my car. He mentioned the K&N Fuel Injection Performance Kit for my 1998 Trans Am would help it breath a lot better the than the stock system with Ram Air Lid and Hood plus K&N Filter.
This system looks completely different from the original Cold Air Induction system. I am unable to post the site on this forum for some reason but if you go to the Advance Auto Parts site it will have it.

What do you guys think? Is it worth paying $362.88 for? Will it let our systems breath better? Is it a gimmick?

Yes, it will help your engine breathe a whole lot better, but I dont know how it measures up againts the Ram Air. $362 Thats way too much for the kit! I got mine from CarParts.com for like $166 with the 30% discount coupon. Summit sells it for like $200, so if you do decide to get it, dont get it through AAP!

I'm not quite clear, but if you already have ram air, the K&N is definately not worth it, at any price. If you're saying you're considering the K&N or a ram air hood and airbox, the you'll probably get about the same performance from K&N for a lot cheaper than the hood and airbox. But you don't get the ram air looks. It's a judgment call on your part if the extra cost of the hood and airbox are worth it when you can get (almost) the same performance from the K&N.

I think K&N makes the best cold air and intake products. I dont see where the cold air kit would help your car since you already have ram air. They are expensive. I bought a cold air kit from summit for $200. For your car it is more expensive. Does the kit hook up to your ram air somehow? It seems like the price there asking is for more than just a plastic intake piece and a filter like what i got for my car. I'll try to see if I can find anything else out about that because I cant really say for sure.

OK sorry for the lack of details about my car earlier. My biggest concern after looking at this K&N kit was the fact that the air filter system was completely different from the standard system in appearance. I know why it is more expensive because it is different. According to mechanics I had who reprogramed my engine, the only difference in the ram air system of the WS6 1998 TAs and my TA was the plastic intake frame, where the air enters into the filter, is raised about 1" or 1 1/2". I ordered and placed that in the car. I am just curious if the K&N Filter Performace Kit makes more horses than the regular Ram Air Intake and a K&N filter that fits in the standard box. I can't really tell since I gained some better acceleration with the engine reprogramed and I never talked to anyoen about thgis issue. Thanx for the advice. Oh and I placed my info on my signature.

The FIPK will not give you any appreciable gain over the ramair you already have. I'd recommend not buying it.
