  • NFB: need advise for wifes new car

hey guys as you probaly know by now im selling my bird, mainly because i got family now,and its the only car we have besides my work truck(Ranger). The wife wants a small or midsize sedan sedan thats she can drive and we all fit in. She has these cars in mind: 2004 dodge neon , 2004 volkswagon passat, 2002 lexus is 300. the car is for her but remember that on the weekends i do have to drive it ,i dont know if i want to have any of these cars.

i used to work at an auto parts store and people used to come in all the time complaining about how hard it is to work on a lexus.

the neon seems to me like its to cheap(pricewise) and will break down sooon

Passat i kinda like except for the horses compared to myn

any suggestions!! wich car should i talk her into ? what do your wifes drive? what sedans have you guys driven and almost liked? what about the new GTO?

    2004 dodge neon No way
    2002 lexus is 300 $$$
2004 volkswagon passat I've been impressed with my wife's beetle (same chasis is Jetta) except for the seat reclining mechinism. It has a turn knob and takes forever to recline or decline. It actually drives good. I imagine the Passat is similar.

    How about a Grand Prix?
2002 Electron Blue Vette, 1SC, FE3/Z51, G92 3.15 gears, 308.9 RWHP 321.7 RWTQ (before any mods), SLP headers, Z06 exhaust, MSD Ignition Wires, AC Delco Iridium Spark Plugs, 160 t-stat, lots of ECM tuning

    1995 Z28, many mods, SOLD

I second Ken on this one.... I Grand Prix or a Grand Am... your wife would probably prefer the Grand Am because it sounds like she's leaning towards smaller cars. The Passat would be good too, and should run forever, but probably a little higher priced, and hey, why not keep it in the GM family?

I'll throw out a 2003 Malibu. My mom just bought a used one. I drove it to Ft Worth and back and got 37 mpg. 3.1 V6. Seemed like a solid car.

My wife has 97 Grand Prix GT. It has been a good car. Nice on the road.

I hate to poo poo on the american car lovefest but my wife's got a V6 Accord and she loves it. I beat the crap out of it and it runs like a watch.

I thrashed her last one for 185K and it was still running great when I sold it.

Id say the 2004 Malibu! These cars are really nice and are a vast improvement over the previous models in every way! Plus I think they look better than the new Grand Prix. However, a GTP will be the exception!

I'd look for a w-Body Prix, Cutlass, Lumina, Monte, Intrige, Regal or Century. They very roomy decent quality cars with bad resale so you can pick up a used one very cheap. My winter beater is a 1988 Cutlass w/112,000 I'd swear it was a brand new car. Denfinatly stay away from any kind of Neon, you'd be better off with a Taurus.

The Malibu already beats Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and Nissan Altima on J.D. Power’s Initial Quality Survey.

It's also stickered cheaper than traditional competitors. I'd say test drive one at least. The 3.5L V6 has 200hp and offers better milage than Camry 3.0L V6.

                      Definitely worth a test drive!

If I were in that market, I'd most likely be looking at the Maxx. I was checking one out at the D.C. auto show and came out impressed to say the least.
