maybe all you experts can help me out...my car runs fine for a little while and then when you give it any sort of gas at all it wants to sputter and die out. You can get in and start the car a bunch of times and and it will work fine but try to start it another time and it will just crank and crank. fuel pump? fuel filter?

Could be optispark, could be fuel related, could be a lot of things. A detailed description of your car and it's mods in your signature would greatly help.

It would really be beneficial to check your fuel presure. Do a search for "fuel pressure regulator". There have been some recent posts on how to properly check your fuel pressure.
Assuming you are getting proper fuel delivery, I would bet on the optispark. Are you still not getting the SES light?

That same thing happened to my bros. '93 formula. It was the distributor cap. It would act up every once in a while, but it would be at its worst in wet and rainy weather. Humidity in the air really got to the ignition and drove it crazy.

Well we took the car via flatbed to the local mechanic and he bypassed the relay for the fuel pump and go no response. There is no activity at all at the pump. Zero fuel pressure. He told me that even a bad fuel pump registers something at one point or another. He thinks that it may be in the computer system but he dont have the equiptment to check the comp. so off it went to the Pontiac dealership in town for a check up. There has been no reply as of yet.

My understanding of the OPTI spark is if it throws a code 16 or 36 (meaning it is bad) it will shut off the fuel pump.2002 Electron Blue Vette, 1SC, FE3/Z51, G92 3.15 gears, 308.9 RWHP 321.7 RWTQ (before any mods), SLP headers, Z06 exhaust, MSD Ignition Wires, AC Delco Iridium Spark Plugs, 160 t-stat, lots of ECM tuning

If you can get a scanner on it, it will tell you what is wrong with it.2002 Electron Blue Vette, 1SC, FE3/Z51, G92 3.15 gears, 308.9 RWHP 321.7 RWTQ (before any mods), SLP headers, Z06 exhaust, MSD Ignition Wires, AC Delco Iridium Spark Plugs, 160 t-stat, lots of ECM tuning

It's too late the car went there around noon today. I'll call tommorrow to get the diagnosis. I may have it brought back home and I'll do it myself if it isnt anything major. The only thing is now that I moved I dont have a garage anymore. doing this on the gravel in the midst of all this rain and cold would not be fun at all. Thank God that we have income tax money.

Well it for sure was the fuel pump. So off I went to the suto parts store for a new one and took it down to the dealership. The labor is going to be $300.00. I figured that they would get me for more than that. I got there and the guy behind the desk tryed to scare me into paying more money for the repair. He said did you jknow that the rear end has to be droped and the exhaust taken off? I siad "yeah" (ever so sarcasticly!) "That is why I brought it here. I am not doing that in my driveway!" They look suprised as I went on to tell them where to unhook the exhaust amoungst other things. They underestimated me. I am not the average "take it to the dealer for repairs kind of guy!" When it is all said and done I will only pay them for the tow and the $300.00 for the labor like they quoted my wife over the phone. No, not one penny more!
