  • 4th Gen. Leather seat recovering question

    Hi guys,

Has anyone here recovered their own leather seats in a 4th gen. F-body, and if so do you know of any how to info on the web or in a book somewhere?

I've got the white leather seats in my 97 SS, and I recently had one recovered. There are some wrinkles that I think I could get out if I could pull it tighter, specifically in the upper cover. The bottom cover looks like it just clips and velcros in place but the upper might require hogrings on the back side.

Just wondering if anybody could give any info or tell of their experiences.

    Thanks.

Hogringing seat covers on is not that difficult at all. Just make sure you get a quality set of hog ring pliers. Don't get the cheap ones that are held together with a rivet, they'll break. The good ones are spring loaded to help hold the hog ring. You just cut the old rings off and keep track of where any listing, wires or metal supports go when you need to put it back together. Sometimes you need to push into the padding pretty hard to get the ring to secure it to the metal underneath. If you miss, cut the ring off and try again. I've done at least 5 interiors on various vehicles and haven't had a problem yet.
