This is like the 3rd carb question in a row. Thanks for the memories.

"What is you opinion holley or edelbrock ?" You are going to get as many aopposed answers as you would which is better Ford-GM, Fender-Gibson, etc etc.

I have no experiance with anything other than Holleys. The Holleys with side pivoting float bowls like the model 1850 suck for a car that handles well. Turn right and the float level drops. Turn left and it rises. The Holley PART # 0-80555C quadrajet replacement looks like a side pivoting design. That carb is different than all of the other Holleys. If it were me, I would probably get an Edelbrock even though I know Holleys better.

Holley only has 1 carb replacement for a spreadbore quadrabog ah ah I mean jet. http://www.holley.com/HiOctn/ProdLin.../0-80555C.html

Edelbrock makes a bunch of models to replace it with.

I'd get the Edelbrock for a street driven performance car. I've played with both and I think the Edelbrock is more user friendly, and more reliable on the street. It may not give the maximum performance that the Holley does in a strait line, but I am willing to give up ~10hp to have fewer headaches.

The Edelbrock is a modern day Carter. A pretty good carb for the street. BTW, center hung floats cure that cornering problem.

i would go with the Edelbrock too, for a daily driver car but if you are going to race it everyweek end i would go with the holly.

Actually, as I said, since he has a spreadbore intake, I would recomend an Edelbrock. If he had a square bore intake, I would recomend a Holley 3310 750 cfm vacuum secondaries.

OOOH the days of carbs. I can't belive it been about 20 years since carbs were made. Now everything some computerize you can't fix it with a wrench you need a $20,000 anayzer. Please bring back carbs.

Yea that was the reason I bought an 85 Mustang GT. It was the last car made with a good old Holley carburetor on it. I spent hours and hours just tinkering with it. Perfecting it. Tweaking it. The car never left me stranded. It almost did one time. The fuel pump died about a half a mile from the house but it was down hill so I coasted "dead stick" all the way back and actually had enough momentum to go up my driveway and into the carport. I wished the garage door was a little faster though. That was close. LOL

But there are drawbacks to them. Even though it passed emissions, I got about 12 mpgs thanks to a .480 X .280 cam and .373 gears. And it was a PITA to start on cold days. I never could get the choke circuit rich enough. It didn't like going to the mountains either. The high thin air made it way too rich. Fuel injection cures everything but it costs a lot more. It amazes me the fuel mileage the F-bodies get especially with still being able to get so much HP to the ground. You just have to learn to deal with them in a different way.

I tried the first Analog Holley projection kit that came out. It was a PITA. It was an open loop system. I bought the closed loop conversion kit which added an O2 sensor. It constantly searched for an idle speed. I finally ripped it off and put the old Holley back on. Looking back on it and knowing what I know now, I think the O2 sensor was too far down the exhaust pipe. I wonder if the digital kits are any better. BTW the FI kit improved my gas mileage almost 3 mpgs.

LOL, that brought back a few momories.

Actually, I solved the cold start issue. I would use the nitrous circuit with the bottle closed, allowing additional fuel to be pulsed in through the plate. Crude, but effective.
