Originally posted by b3master it is a shocking video, incredible, but i have a question, these are automatic cars? or manual? i cant even think that somone goes through 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th gear to achieve 198MPH in just 7 seconds??? maybe it is a single gear? hehe... hell even automatic it just hard to believe its shifting and doesnt waste not even a split of a split second shifting but its right there infront of me i just sit here replaying it and drooling
can it be like just two gears? im so stunned
guys can somone enlighten me plz? automatic 4 speed?
Do you watch NHRA professional drag racing on ESPN2... The NHRA Pro Stock cars routinely run under 7.0-seconds, over 200mph with a 5-speed manual tranny.... usually a clutchless Liberty of something similar. Take the time to watch the in-car camera that usually accompanies Jeg Coughlin down the track.... 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 gears.... it's amazing to watch someone sit there totally calm and collected, banging through the gears in 6.7-seconds. But the tranny and the shifter make it suprisingly easy. And the shift linkage is a work of art... I always thought it would be fairly intimidating to do a Liberty or a Lenco in a street car.... but there are too many drawbacks with the trannies that make them unusable on the street.

4 gears in under 7 seconds is the norm for pro stock. One gear shifter for each gear and you bang though them pretty easily. There are 2 speed auto transmissions known as powerglides and you better have serious torque and power to consider one. The only direct drive (basically one gear) I know of is nitro dragster and coupe (top fuel and funny car). All the rest falls into a few catagories..... regular automatics in 3,4 and now 5 gears, Regular clutch type stick shifts in 3,4,5,and 6 speeds. Last is race units. These can be clutchless automatics, lenco, etc.
personaly i would rather have a supercharger because of the fact it is always there. Also i dont have the money to go fill up my bottle cause i know i would be usin a lot if i had it. On the other hand it is usefull to have if you are involved in races and like hitin the quarter mile run..
