  • Yet another CD changer questions

It was a fairly decent afternoon so I decided to start up the T/A that has been in storage since early Sept.

I checked the battery and charged it to be on the save side. I hooked it up and the T/A started on the first try. Nice to hear that V8 sound and feel the vibs.

After idling for a while I decide to hook up the 12 disk CD changer I bought used on Ebay. I plugged it into the cable in the trunk. It started checking all slots and then nothing happened.

I played with the head unit (Pontiac Monsoon) and pressed all the buttons and nothing. All it kept playing was the CD in the head unit or when it was removed, the radio.

Also red the manual while sitting there. The changer is part # 16199553. Seems to run but doesn't interact with the head unit. After reading the Radio section several times I noticed that the head unit which controls the changer has the # 3 button called Pro for program and # 4 Rdm for random. The Pro button is supposedly used to switch between CD's.

My head unit has on # 3 Rdm and nothing on # 4. I'm getting the feeling that my changer doesn't work with it. As mentioned previously, the cable is in the trunk and that's where I hooked it up to.

You guys that have changers in your rides, do you have a CD player in the head unit or only tape drives? What is your head unit part #?

Am I doing something wrong or missing something or am I just plain S out of L with my head unit using this changer?

    The Monsoon head unit...

09380122 has the chip to drive the CD changer 6 or 12 CDs. Just hit the CD/PLAY button twice and voila!. The PREV and NEXT bouttons will change the CD, not the music tracks

    Hope this helps
    Take care

      Thanks Doc

I tried it and it didn't work

I guess now I have to figure out what isn't working, the changer or something is wrong on the head unit?? Like I said the changer checks each slot when the magazine is inserted and that's about it.

Once I get the car home I will pull out the head unit to check the part #.

I just hooked up a 12 disk changer that I bought to my 95 cassette headunit. I had the same problem initially, until I decided to try putting the cd's in the changer upside down. Needless to say, that's the way they go in there, cause it works great.

Yep I realized that during my first try. One thing I haven't tried to see whether it plays original disks. I just used backed up ones on CD-R media. Maybe it can't read those.

            I'm glad to

know your CD changer worked all right !! Ours antique units can't read CD-R or MP3 ...Delco or Monsoon has to upgrade the hardware, don't you think?
Enjoy the long magazine of music !!
            Take care
