Can anyone give me a ballpark figure of what it will cost me to build my 350 into a 383? And what parts i will need to buy if possible. Any info is greatly appreciated.
As a minimum, you need a new 3.75" stroke crankshaft, and you need to bore the cylinders to 4.030" and get pistons and rings to match. That would give you a small increase over stock power... maybe proportional to the 10% displacement increase. That would cost you about $1,000. Throw in a good cam and port your LT1 heads and you might be in for about $3,000 and over 400HP.
But that's not why you build a 383 - you build it for significant power increase. If you are planing to run without a "power added" (nitrous, S/C, turbo) you can use a low $$$ bottom end... cast steel crank, low $$$ H-beam rods (or even the stock rods) and some reasonably priced hypereutectic pistons. Add a set of well ported LT1 or LT4 heads, a decent cam and upgraded valve train, larger injectors, etc and you can be looking at 400-525flywheel HP... ballpark $3,000 - 6,000 total. Of course you need to allow about 50% additional funds for exhaust , drivetrain, fuel system, etc. upgrades.
If you are considering a serious power adder, there is no limit. You need a forged crank ($500-,$1,200), forged rods ($500-$1,200), some forged aluminum pistons ($400-$800), a conversion of the main bearing caps to "4-bolt" configuration ($500), and really good heads/intake ($1,500-$3,500), a fairly radical cam and upgraded valve train ($600-$1,000).... plus the cost of the power adder.... $3,500 minumum for a blower, $1,500 for nitrous.
Now you are talking maybe $8,000-10,000 for 600-650HP to over $25,000 for a 1,000+HP setup. And don't forget to allow another 40-50% of the engine cost for the drivertrain, suspension and fuel system upgrades.
