  • Gas smell on the oil dipstick ?

    Hello Guys;

    I have been having a lil trouble with lower oil pressure and high coolant temps,but i think maybe the oil pressure may be beacause of gauge or sending unit cause it maxes totally out sometimes !!. Anyways, i keep checking the dipstick for droplets of water or a milky oil but haven't had any of that. But today i checked it and it smells like gasoline now. So,what would cause this and would it have any impact on my oil pressure or high temps ?....By the way. it hasn't gotten to where it overheats, just gets up to around 230 in town then the fans keep cooling it back down til i get back out into open air !

    Thanks, Ron

    If you are aluminum headed, 230° F is asking for it as far as warpage!

      it's a stock 3.4L.. alot of people say the f-bods can go up to 230 before the fans kick on again, so not sure

        You may have a excessive rich condition. I'd at least change the oil. You will lose oil pressure if its too thin.

          check to see if you're burning any oil, if you are either your valve seals are burnt or your piston rings are shot, but I would start with changing the oil and spark plugs, one or more plugs may be fowled and not igniting.

          The Z28 is back under the knife, after the transmission, now its the entire engine....will post pics when all finished.

            Ok, I'll maybe start with another oil change first then.

            thanks
