While racing a LS-1 T/A over a local 5 mile bridge here in Jax Fl my speedo was reading a few notches over 150.

I don't know, because I'm not going to get a higher speedometer, because if you get pulled over for going 120 and you have a 85 speedometer, they can only charge you with going yep you guessed it 85, with that said, I know I've gone WELL over 120.

I'd guess 130. I was racing a talon and had the gas pegged for quite some time. I let off then looked down about a second after I let off and i was a little over 120. It didn't feel like I was going that fast, the only indication that I was doing that was that I had it floored for quite a while and the speedo reading. I felt like I was in complete control the whole time. Although after I stepped out of the car after this thrill ride I didn't have much control over my legs.

I went 130 in my 1968 bonneville coming down a mountain road here . Well, I have a 120 mph speedometer in it and I had the speedo buried with the needle quite a bit past 120. Im not sure how accurate it was but I was flying.

130 in my firebird feels ALOT safer than 130 in a 2+ ton boat with mushy suspension and tires rated for 95mph.

I have 275/40 Yr17 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's and they are by far the best tire i have ever owned (Only tire that has given me traction in the rain in my WS-6). There is no way i would hit speeds past 120 on anything but z-rated.

I hat to ask since i know i might get flamed for this but..... what are z rated tires?? I know the 4th gens come with z rated tires. When I go to buy tires, is there a difference that makes them z rated or otherwise??? Thanks.

Was toolin down Alligator Alley at about a buck thirty in my Shelby Daytona when all of a sudden something went WHOOOOOSSSSHHHHHHHHHHH by me like I wasn't even moving.

Didn't see it coming or going. Scared the heck out of me. About 5 miles later there was a ZR1 on the side of the road and a guy takin a leak. About 5 minutes later he blew by me again. Those things are fast!

The '79 was an interesting story. In Eagle County between the Glenwood Canyon and Vail, I was opening it up one sunny afternoon. I wasn't racing nor was I trying to impress anybody. Every time I saw a car, I slowed to the posted speed limit and passed, and then hit the gas when the car(s) were safely behind me. The T/A spedo is 100mph which was buried, and I had it up to the redline so however fast that is in 4th gear. After awhile, I ran into some heavy traffic so I slowed to the posted speed limit ...after a few minutes, a deputy in a unmarked Bonneville SSEI comes up behind me and flashes the lights. The cop comes to my window with a big grin and asks me for the info. asks me if I knew why I was being stopped..."I smiled politely and confessed that I was going way to fast...probably should have left my baby in storage", apparently, the Sheriff's office was tracking me for awhile. She comes back to my window as I was preparing for a trip to the Sheriff's office, and hands me my info. ..."says, please keep the speeds down in Eagle County...you know these speeds are a jailing offense as she smiles at me." ..."yes officer...I will!" I got off because I slowed whenever I saw any kind of traffic. That was an interesting experience.

The '97 T/A was a little more fun. My buddy and I left Fort Collins, CO at 10:30pm and arrived in Vegas at 7:00am. Wow...what a fun trip...how we didn't get stopped at those speeds is beyond me. We did hit some highway outside of Vegas that was straight with a downward slope with great visibility. I hit 142,3,4 for several minutes before I backed off and cruised at 110 or so. I didn't trust the 30k Goodyear GS-Cs to handle any more speed then that.

I had my '97 WS6 floored for several miles on a flat road. But never got over 140.

Hmmm.... that sounds vaguely familiar. Was it by any chance a 95 dark Polo Green ZR-1? I'm not saying anything, just that it sounds familiar. Besides, coffee goes right through ya.

That cop story brought back memories. I was going to a car show in my modded 94z and the guy ahead of me kept going off the road and slinging rocks and dust on me so I said screw that. I just floored ole girl and blew past the dude going like 120+
Just at that time I saw a cop sitting on the side of the road. He pulled out and I just pulled over before he was even close to me. I thought I was going to jail. I was only 21, and didn't even have my wallet on me. The guy comes up and asks me where the fire is? I told him the story and he was checking out my car. Asked me what I had done to it, and if I planned on slinging some juice in it. He told me to keep the beast under control and took off. No ticket at all. Gosh that was a lucky day.

                                take it easy

ps are verts scary at 150 plus? I sold the hard top and bought a 94zvert. My hard top felt sweet at 150+, smooth as glass.
