  • Accessing codes on an OBD II system....

Is there a way to display trouble codes on an OBD II car without a scanner? Every other car I've owned has been able to flash them on the dash board through a series of key turns or by jumping the diagnostic port, but of those were OBD II cars. My manual claims you have to have a scanner, but I wanted to make sure before I went out and spent the money.

    Thanks!

You have to have a scanner. No "flashing" codes on OBD2.

ok, thanks. I just found what looks to be a good scanner for $130. It says it will work on all OBD II vehicles regardless of make, so I can use it on my other cars and maybe rent it out at work!

There's a "trouble code" only OBD-II scanner available from Harbor Freight for $40. One of the moderators on CamaroZ28.com tried it out and it worked fine.

If you have an Autozone close by, they will read the codes for free.
