Speaking of Over-Oiled Air-Filters

I have been getting a P0300 (Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected) for quite a while now. If I reset the SES it will trigger again within 20 miles. I've taken it to 3 dealerships, all of which have told me they couldn't duplicate the problem (dillholes).

I may be guilty of the over-oiling issue. The engine starts on the first turn but just barely. A minor stumble throughout the powerband. I have been ignoring it b/c I'm tired of paying $65 a pop to be told they can't find anything wrong.

What do you guys think? 57K miles.

Might be a good idea to take out the MAF and spray down the wire elements with electrical contact cleaner just to be sure.

First, Inspect the vehicle for a reusable aftermarket excessively oiled air filter

DON'T DO THIS
DO NOT repair under warranty if concerns result from the use of a reusable aftermarket oiled air filter.

The installation of an aftermarket reusable, oiled air filter may result in:

1. Service Engine Soon (SES) Light On

2. Transmission shift concerns, slipping and damaged clutch(es) or band(s)

3. Engine driveability concerns, poor acceleration from a stop, limited engine RPM range

The oil that is used on these air filter elements may be transferred onto the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor causing contamination of the sensor. As a result, the Grams per Second (GPS) signal from the MAF may be low and any or all of the concerns listed above may occur.

When servicing a vehicle with any of these concerns, be sure to check for the presence of an aftermarket reusable, excessively oiled air filter. The MAF, GPS reading should be compared to a like vehicle with a OEM air box and filter under the same driving conditions to verify the concern.

Transmission or engine driveability concerns that are the result of the installation of an aftermarket reusable, excessively oiled air filter are not considered to be warrantable repair items.

hummm...i had that problem a few months back...dealer said it screwed up my maf and other stuff...anywho, how do you know if you over oiled it???

I got a new K&N and it was drenced in oil right out of the bag...it had oil running everywhere...I just wiped the excess and popped it in...hope it don't screw up anything else.

I really have no idea what is causing it. I'm grasping at straws as it is. I plan on doing some detective work this wknd.

Any other ideas what might cause an P0300?

The easiest way I know of is just remove the filter and inspect the intake tract. If it's over-oiled there will be some residue in the intake from the oil being sucked in. If you had that much oil from the factory, it's probably still over-oiled. Clean it and re-oil.

So lemme understand this right...
you buy a new K&N and put it on out of the box and it ruins parts due to excessive oil from the factory and GM says they wont warranty any parts.
Shouldnt K&N then pay for damage?
