  • want to switch to 5 speed

I want to ditch the four speed, and throw a five speed in it...but the only transmission that was a 5 speed without a hydrolic clutch waas in 83....thats it. 84 was hydrolic and 82 was 4-speed. help me with ideas.
    82 camaro x2:
    82 z28 w/ 305 (for now) 4 speed saginaw
    82 berrlinetta with 350 .060 over...3 speed auto

The Z28 is back under the knife, after the transmission, now its the entire engine....will post pics when all finished.

great idea, but I will NEVER stray for carb power.....its a fetish of mine. I fear for what computers are going to start doing to the auto mitive industry......honda insight is the prototype....our days of mechanical parts are over.

Computers have done nothing for the automotive industry except make it better. More power, more drivability and more fuel economy. And... I dare say it is easy to work on, once you learn the basics.

Open your mind a little and you will see you are missing out on a great thing. Carberators are a thing of the past for a good reason.... they dont do the job as well. Fuel injection can become a fetish too... rebuild a throttle body, stick new injectors on your fuel rail, tweak the fuel pressure regulator. Fun Fun Fun!! FI on a LT1 is a simple system to troubleshoot and repair. 2 quick release fittings and 4 bolts and the entire thing lifts off the manifold. The TB is just as simple, if you have the coolant lines bypassed. Pop off the linkages and remove 4 bolts.

I think it is simpler to work on than a carb. no rods, no jets, no squirters, no diaphrams... just solid reliability and drivability. And, it automatically adjusts the mixture at different elevations too. IMHO, there is no comparison to be made, FI takes it hands down, no contest.

About your transmission and ideas for a swap, I would say check out

              www.thirdgen.org

Ouch, my foot hurts!! Name drop!!

Seriously though, a lot of people on that forum do swaps of all kinds all the time (LS1 and T56 swap, LT1 and 4L60E swap, carbed 350 or 454 and Turbo 350, 400, and T5 swap, etc.). Someone on the Engine Swap forum can help you out with ideas for dropping in another transmission than the one you have.

              Good Luck!
