Correct. How the hell is someone supposed to run your plates/man the radio/work the radar gun AND shift gears all at the same time?

i've read a couple times though that our speed limits today are really much too limiting, especially on big open highways. We've had the same speed limits since like the 1950's, back when cars weighed 4,000 pounds and had the manuverability of a mack truck. Today's cars can cruise easily at 95 mph without any problems, and they're all made so easy to drive that, once anyone gets used to it, driving 95 or 100 isn't a problem.

And if you get in an accident going 80 mph, or going 100 mph, i dont think there's going to be much difference in what happens to you.

I am a Navy Police Officer, but have had law enforcement around me since I was born(Dad=Sheriff/Uncle=City Cop/Brother=City Cop). I can say that I would definitely go after the guy, although not likely to catch him, and as it was already stated, it all depends upon the attitude of the violator. As a way of thinking about it though, understand that some officers actually have their mind made up whether they plan to cite you or not. And at that speed, that is grounds for arrest in some states.

Have fun with the Booty Bandit!!!

          Hypothetical situation....

You blast through a radar trap at 150mph.
All the cop is able to see is maybe the color and size of car. Your license plate is unreadable at that speed. He pulls out, and hits his lights.

          You don't slow down

By the time he reacts and pulls out (7 seconds) and gets up to 60... in say 7 more seconds, you are over 1/2 of a mile ahead of him. By the time he hits 100 (another 14 seconds), you are better than a mile gone and still pulling away at 50 mph.
only 28 seconds have passed now. Start looking for an exit ramp.
as soon as you are out of his sight for sure, take an exit and park it. He will keep going strait. Even if his buddys find you at this point they cannot touch you. They have no proof it was you because they lost sight of you. It could had been any camaro or firebird the same color as yours, all you have to do is play totally dumb. It is just a coincidence your car looks similar, right?

...not that i've ever done this.... in my younger dumber days... before wife and kids...

About my comment on stick shifts- my information was taken from an article I read a few years ago when some local departments we're testing vehicles for police duty. I looked for this article without luck, but will post it if I can find it.

The basic jist of it was that they had durability concerns due to the abuse and type of driving the vehicle would see on a daily basis. The article also mentioned the cost of educating officers on driving manual transmissions in chase type scenarios. I'm sure the issues the officers on this forum mentioned were factored in also in their final decision.

I took it to mean that departments didn't think their officers could drive manuals adequately, and didn't think about the other duties a cop has to perform while driving. Sorry if I offended anyone.

That brings back old memories - When I used to tune cars we power timed them on a dyno. We would get the 440 interceptor cars in there and they were dogs. Just in case, though, we would pull a few extra degrees of timing

The Furys that replaced those were 360s and they sucked the Great Wazoo powerwise. They had a lot of weight due to heavy-duty everything and tons of police equipment. All those 70's cars were smog monsters just like everything else built back then.

Anyway, it was always the radio that got me, or the fear of worse repercussions for fleeing & evading like having the car impounded. I only ran once - and got 30 days.

                license plates info

                hi

i was wondering if police in europe can find out if my plates , registration and title are still good or oher things about my car

can anyone run my license plate on the police database? i want to know if the plates are still good, if registration has expired , if tax has been paid for the car and all the info i can get
i live in europe and i cant register the car here cause of the pollution standards and age of car. so i drive my 93 trans am with the US plates and papers(not on my name), i just cant give this car up, i love my t/a

about police cars here they have 94- 97 vw jettas 2.0 gasoline, 2001-02 vw passats 2.5 v6 tdi diesels and some old cars that dont matter
i stop when i get pulled over but i think that i am only being nice to stop, they cant catch me . i got pulled over once by 5 cops (they were for me on morning 500 meters from the place where the car was parked- i think this really is harassment) and they said that i cant drive the car here cause its too much, that was the only reason.( i live in a small town and they pretty much know the car) i said what can i do this is how these cars look and ride ,i cant do anything about it. they threatened me that they would confiscate the plates and papers without even checking it !!!!
                what do you think?
                can anyone help me?

Because of pollution standards? I was under the impression that the USA has stricter pollution regulations than other nations... and that car is sure as hell good here.

As for them just confiscating it -- what country do you live in? I have to think that something like that wouldn't fly in the UK, Germany, France, or other more developed nations...

i live in romania, cops here want to get money from people, i think they wanted me to pay them off. i just want to know that my car is ok so i dont have to pay

most of the cars here are seventies or eighties cars (some 70 renault license)
porsche pursuit vehicles? maybe in germany, i drovee a lot in there but i havent seen one

you cant say that a bmw is better than a trans am , well maybe in the usa. here the t/a is like a bmw or oter european sporty car in the usa. i havent seen another trans am around. also ferrari amgs or jags only old jags . a lot of bmws ,mercedes, opels, audis, renault and vws here, but mostly diesels cause gas is quit expensive -about 85 cents per liter. i really hate diesels very few bmws or mercs have powerful gas engines. i think that large gas engine cars are exported in the usa. so my car is quit "exotic" here

i ll send you pictures from the roads here if you want
