  • how to ship a hood?

I successfully installed my WS6 hood on my car, so now I have my normal stock formula hood sitting in my living room, and I need to sell it. I will probably end up putting it on ebay. I don't have a truck or anyway to move it anywhere, so I can't just drive it to a ups drop-off. I put it in the box that my Ws6 hood came in and duct taped it all back shut, but I doubt I can ship it off somewhere like that. Does anyone know how I go about shipping it to whoever ends up winning it?

Incidentally... if anyone's interested, I have a '98-02 Firebird / Formula / Trans Am Hood for sale. Its factory black, in immaculate condition, no scratches, chips, dents, or dings.

If it were me, I would completly wrap it in bubble wrap, double layers at all corners, pack it in packing foam inside a box and seal it up. That should do it. Mark fragile all over the box in huge letting to overstate what should be obvious.

heh, no i already did that. I put it back in all the packing that came with my ws6 hood, all of it matched right up. it had molded foam padding for all the corners and tons of bubble wrap. how do i go about actually getting it shipped is what i mean. does UPS come out to my place and pick it up?

you can arrange for an at home pick-up, not sure if ups ships things that large (how did your other hood come?), you might have to have it shipped by truck freight. A company will always come pick up at your place, might just charge through the nose for it.

Not sure if UPS is the same, but you can call them and schedule a pick up.

Mine was shipped by Fedex Freight from Texas to Canada.

They managed to break it (repairable) but if you insure it for the full value of a new one, they will buy a new one should something go wrong with it.

Mine was only ensured for the price I paid used. So they paid up to that amount for the repair but refunded me most of the shipping charges.

The biggest problem I had was finding a shipper that would clear customs for the hood coming into Canada. You won't have that problem is you sell in the US only.

Call Fedex, UPS and others with the size and weight and ask them how much shipping would be.

UPS will not ship the hood due to it's dimesions, however Fedex Freight will ship it and will pick it up for an additional charge of like $20.

I remember I sold my stock hood on ebay. Shipping with FedEx was close to $300.00. Luckly the guy who bought it off me lived in Michigan so he drove out here and picked it up, saved him self the shipping.
