I changed the pinion seal in my 97 Formula WS6 a few months back since it was leaking. The rear was fine (quiet) initially, but now has developed a whine only when slowing down from around 50 MPH. I'm sure I torqued the pinion nut close to the original specs, and the gear oil was replaced with Red Line (including limited slip additive). I checked the oil level and that was OK. The rear has the stock 3.42s in it and the car only has 30,000 miles on it. What could have caused this to start all of a sudden?

some slack developed because the pinion nut did not get matched up to its original setting........

Could I try snugging up the pinion nut, or just leave it alone? I don't want to toast the pinion bearing. Any opinions?
