  • Turbo questions

Hey guys i have heard about people turbo charging their f-bods but it is mainly the ls1. Do they make kits for that sort of thing? Do they use single turbo set ups or twin turbo? And can it be done to the LT1? Just curious if anyone could educate me a lil. Oh and why don't they just supercharge it instead?

Grrrrrrr..... I have been looking for an hour and have found a few sites with turbocharged f-body V-8's but it only has pictures. No specs, no how-to's, no info at all.

I can't answer your questions about LT1 specific turbocharging, but I can explain why a turbo would be preferred.

A turbo eliminates the pumping losses a supercharger has due to being driven off the crank. It absorbs considerable amounts of power, while the turbo does not. This allows turbos to produce more power but generally only in higher RPM's. For street/strip combos this is great as these cars are normally at high RPM's anyways. An added bonus for our cars is that a V8 has good low end power anyway, and tends to minimize the effect of turbo lag.

If you're gonna dump all that money on a turbo charger dump it on ported heads & intake. Don't rice your car!!

Turbo in no way equals rice. Mr Taso does not know what hes talkin about.

If you really are interested in Turboing your f-body, call or check out Lingenfelter.

                http://www.lingenfelter.com/home.asp

They are probably the only ones I would trust to do it. But it will be costly, looking at 4 times the cost of a Head cam swap. Possibly more. Then you have to get into everything else to make sure of the supporting hardware(ie Tranny, Rear, etc. etc.) fails.

OF course with the death of Mr. Lingenfelter, Im not even sure they are taking orders. I dont know, just thought I would put that out there for you.

                Good luck.

To my knowledge LPE is still going strong thankfully. That was a tough loss though.

Turbo on an F-body = rice to me. That's just my opinion.

Not quite white yet Still about 50% grey on the beard and the rest is still nice and dark.

Being this is an f-body board, I rarely seem to comment on the beast. That car is indeed a passion of mine. Thanks!

                          definition of rice:
Anything put on a car that adds either no or very little horsepower, or has absolutely no factual purpose.

so, big wings on Hondas are rice because, if they were to actually even work (which they don't), they would make the Hondas lose traction on the tires that are both for steering and putting down the power.

Turbo in no way equals rice. A turbo adds mad amounts of power, plus nobody can really tell that you have one, unless you have a loose BOV or somethin and they can hear it.
                          my car:
'86 Caprice Classic. Soon to have a 350 crate motor. Shooting for 300rwhp.

                          the project:
check the www for pics, but a '36 Chevy Master Sedan, MII front end, Jaguar IRS, '93 LT1 powerplant with plans for 350rwhp, and many many other goodies
