ok guys, I need some help. I've got the orig. 200-4R in my GN and have a big question. I've been told by my tranny shop that the 200 is a weak tranny and that I should replace it with the 700-R4. Now, I like the 700, but the 200 has been very faithful and taken a lot of power and grinned at it. I know Joe will have something to say on this, but all opinions are welcomed. I would prefer to keep the 200 since its the tranny she was made with (matching #'s and such). Any ideas guys?

My dad has a built 200 in his 1983 Oldsmobile Cutlas Hurst/Olds. It has a 500+ hp 455 in front of it, and takes the power just fine (so far)
You can have the 200 built to take some abuse.Tracy

Crap. Neither tranny is known for its strength. THe 700r4 does not provide any advantage over the 200. Both can be built to handle some power. I believe that his name is Art Carr, and he makes 200-4R's take whatever you can throw at them. period. Has nothing to do with which model tranny, for the most part, but the parts inside, and who built it.
Art Carr FAQ
Hope that helps

That's what I thought to. I don't know if it was neglegence or just forgetfulness, but my dad never replaced the filter or fluid until about a year and a half ago. Tranny never gave us any problems except for the rear seal and pan gasket. She still runs great, even better since we put a shift kit on her. I mean, the 700-R4 is a good tranny, as Craig 94 TA GT will attest to along with many other proud owners, but this 200-4R has been a very good performer and stood up to everything we threw at it, even a Z06.Thanks for the info guys.
