  • Trying to replace Monsoon Speakers

I talked to someone in a Best Buy Audio department today. I know it probably wasn't the best place to get advice on my car audio system.

A couple of my car's Monsoon Speakers are blown and I need to replace them.

He recommended I go to a Monsoon Audio Dealer to replace them and that it might be a pretty penny. I looked on the web abnd I am unable to get on the web site to even find out a way to contact them.

Any recommendations on replacement of my speakers? SHould I stick with Monsoon?

I live in Central Texas, 1 hour north of Austin. Anywhere nearby my area to get this work done? I appreciate any help.

The monsoon system as you know is a 500 watt system. All the speakers in the system are designed to sound good together. The downside to this is that when the cheap paper speakers deteriorate you have to replace them with the same factory speaker. The reason for this is because the speakers in the monsoon sytem work at a different ohm load than an aftermarket speaker and cannot work with the monsoon system and vice versa. Unfortunately your only choice is to either gut the monsoon sytem and put in a complete aftermarket one or replace the crappy monsoon speaker. In my opinion the monsoon system is a waste of money but then again I worked at a High quality car audio retail store for a long time and know the difference between a factory premium sound system and a real premium sound system. Sorry for the bad news.

This is a silly question... But behind the front seats, there is the side panel that has what appears to be a speaker grill. Is there really a speaker behind it? If so, mine don't work...

The guy who owned the car before me had an aftermarket sound system. Before he sold it to me, he put a monsoon unit back in it. Currently, the front speakers and very rear speakers (in the hatch area) work great but no sound from that 'middle section'.

If there are indeed speakers there, is it easy to get to them? I have already checked the connection between the wiring and the head unit and that all 'looks good'...

-If you are happy with the system, I'd stick with it because you can probably find some used Monsoon speakers out there and save yourself some $. (just my two cents)

I had a speaker go bad in my hatch area last year and I was able to pick a used replacement up for $20 from a guy on the site. Just make sure you get the OEM speakers because of the OHM load issue.

i am happy with my monsoon system but i recently put 2 alpine type r component speakers behind the front seats and 2 alpine type 12 inch subs in the back....i bought a OEM-1 made by PAC to give 2 sets of RCA's with a remote turn on for the subs....

Hey MS94TA, yes there are speakers in mid section of the cars, they are 7 inch bass speakers powered by a seperate amp locted underneath the passanger back seat side panel, thats how it is on my 93 ta which came with the 10 speaker system. I have the the same problem, I've isntalled an after market cd player by Sony, even when I connected the amp wire to the after market radio they still wouldnt play. So i ended up removing the the door speakers and the back seat speakers and installing aftermarket 6.5 inch speakrs, I disconnected the speakers in the hatch area and fitted longer wire to power the spkears behind the seat. The speakers behind the seat have 7inch opening so I had to buy brackets to fit the 6.5 inch speakers, It's an ok combo but I am lacking the lows.

I wouldn't put any Monsoon ones back in. They are crappy and do not last very long. I had the rear seat ones replaced with woofers from Orion. Not cheap, but they sound great.

i have installed an pioneer cd player in my 93 trans am. you must connect the purple wire to the power antenna output of the cd player to make the woofers work. or connct it to the + wire output of any speaker( i dont know if this one is healthy for the cd player, but mine was ok , it worked ok for 1 year now, but i think the power antenna wire is best)

i like the factory sound system, but i have to replace the front speakers cause the rubber ring thing from the membrane
