  • Header install problem

I have installed SLP shorty headers on my 97 T/A (LT1). One of the heater lines is aluminum and is not a problem. The other heater hose almost touches (1/8" of clearance!) on the passenger side header. I put heat shield around it, but that is scorching. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions on how to fix it?

You might try bending away from the header and wraping the heater hose in high temp header wrap.

Call SLP on it...I had the same problem. They're aware of the problem and they should tell you the same thing Steve said.

Is that what you did to fix it? I was thinking of replacing it with a piece of aluminum tube.

I reread your post....sorry, I thought the aluminum pipe was the problem. I got it backwords. Still call SLP and they'll tell you what to do. I had 2 aluminum pipes and not the rubber hose. Some cars have 1 aluminum and 1 rubber, others have 2 aluminum. I can't remember what they said about the 1 rubber hose since I didn't have to worry about it at the time.

I've talked to SLP before without having much luck. I tried again and SLP said to re-route the hose above the airbox...I've done that but haven't driven it yet. Looks like it should solve the problem. Thanks for the help!
BTW I would like to use long tubes, but want to stay emissions legal.

I had the LT1 headers on my car for 2 days and burned to sets of plugs wires…So I took them off sent them to the garbage can and bought FLP Long Tubes .
SLP Headers are Nice on the LS1 …But the lt1’ headers are a Big Downer

u will see litte HP gain with the slp's also ..... on 97's
