Jaguar is owned by Ford, but I wouldn't say Ford makes Jaguars. Ford only makes money from Jaguars. I don't know the Allison/Gm relationship, but if it's like most subsidiaries these days, GM really only owns it in name. They're collecting the profits. but I wouldn't say they're making the trannies.

If Allison were spun off from a GM business or factory, and GM still owns it, then it's a different story. As I said, I don't know the relationship.

Why would you say that? The Lincoln LS and the Jaguar S-type share the same platform (DOO98) and engine (Jag gets 4.0L, Lincoln gets 3.9L). Incidentally, thats the same engine as in the FORD Thunderbird.

The Lincoln LS and Jaguar platform was developed as such by FORD. The company I work for did testing on this platform when it first came out. We didn't deal with Jag, we dealt with Ford.

"By combining multiple automakers, the resulting conglomerate hopes to reduce costs and increase profits through shared resources and technology"

Why else would manufacturers combine? As soon as they do, parts start interchanging. I'm pretty sure GM wouldn't put an Allison in a F bod, I was just throwing it out there. However, technology starts changing hands and makes things possible that otherwise might not be.

I had one of these cars once, (a station wagon, no less, LOL!) and the previous purchaser was listed as General Motors.

Also, GM does make a 5 speed auto (5L40-E made in France). It is mostly used in BMWs, but also used in Opels and Range Rovers. The only American car it is used in is the Cadillac CTS.
abuot the cadillac cts- i looks very much alike the new opel vectra , i think that only the engines, and the luxury interior of the cadillac are different. i wouldnt buy a cts- opel is a cheap and quite crappy car in europe, the last of the german cars. the cadillac cts has the same tecnical platform as the opel!! sh45t , i wouldnt buy an restyled opel for that much money

Allison has been a division of GM since 1934.

The 5-speed automatic used in the Chevy/GMC pickups is H-U-G-E. Not applicable to a sedan or coupe.

The Catera was an Opel. As far as I know, the CTS is a US-designed platform called "Sigma", and "related" to the C6.
