  • Cost of Car being painted

How much do you think it would be to get my black t/a repainted black. What steps would be involved that i would be able to do on my own. Like sanding the clear coat off right?????? I want to paint the car triple wet black, has anybody heard of this color. Supposidly it is the darkest black that is around. I only plan on getting the body painted, not under the hood, engine compartment, ect. I only want to get the parts that will be seen everyday.
    Thanks Tom

When I had my GTO painted, I did a lot of the bullwork myself. I payed about 2000 for someone to do the rest. I would expect to pay at least that for a good paint job. The price of the paint will effect the total cost too. You can pay 20 bucks a quart or 300 bucks a quart depending on what your getting. Sounds like youre looking at expensive paint....

At a minimum, disassemble the car yourself. Remove the tail lights, cornering lights, fog lights... I like to also remove the bumper covers and chemically strip them. If you repaint bumper covers without stripping them the paint gets thicker and less flexable making it crack easir. I would paint the spoiler and mirrors seperately as well so the seams dont weld together with paint.

Good prep work is 60% of a paint job. Don't cut corners there.
If it can come apart... take it apart. Mask very well where needed. Learn to love chemical stripper. It works awsome.

What kind of tape/paper do you use when masking the area's. I dont want to use a tape that will leave the sticky residoo behind. And how do I take the front turn signals and the rear spoiler. I know the spoiler bolts right off but how do i take the plastic part covering all the bolts off. thanks tom

To get the spoiler off just yank the plastic piece down(it has push pins) and there are the bolts. To get the turn signals off get under the front of the car and take the plastic pieces off the bottom and you will see the bolts.
          good luck
