  • lost to a 2004 mach 1

my friend just bought a 2004 mach 1 yesterday with only 100 miles on it we went out of town had a little fun. The first race I got a good start and he got a pretty crappy start so i jumped off the line and was about 1 car length ahead of him. We stayed like this till about 70 mph when his shaker kicked in and passed me. At 105 mph he was about 1 car length ahead of me.
For the second race i didn't get very good traction off the line and he got a pretty good start so he jumped a car length ahead of me, by the time 105 mph came around he was probably 5 car lengths ahead of me and still leaving. I think he got such a good jump off the line because he has a manual with traction control and i have an auto. well i guess it's time for me to start saving my money for mods.
I also wanted to ask how much damage it would do to your engine if you bought it with only 30 miles on it and rodded it everywhere you go?

The manual with traction control would actually hurt his launching ability if it were to kick in. I don't have TC on my 6-speed, but anyone who does, turns it off when racing at the drag strip.

The Mach 1 is a fast car

Man, you've got to remember his mommy and poppy spent a good $28,000 on that car. I am assuming you spent 6,000-8,000 on your car. For as much as his parents spent on the car it should be faster than your 93'. But like every one else says take it to the track. Learn from someone who has to go to court next week and has a good chance of loosing a drivers license. Cops don't take too kindly to an 18 year old who looses traction for a "1/10 of a second."

in most states, anything over 100mph is straight to jail and impoundment of your car.

in my state speed limits 55mph and the most they allow is between 40-50 mph over the limit and that by itself is 6 points on your license. anything over that the cop might as well chop your license in half on the spot

Interesting little tidbit of info...a friend of mine who is a cop in Texas told me that they can pretty much take you to jail for any kind of speeding, not that they would. But the law is basically written in such a way that when you are pulled over, you are basically under arrest....when you get a ticket, that is your bond to go free but show up in court to either pay or fight it. But yeah, he also said that if someone is going over 100 then they will definitely be arrested, racing is a go to jail card too....that and suspension of your license. Definitely not worth it.

Back to beating your buddies Mach 1 - I think you should be able to get him off the line- thats where your advantage in an auto is. The Mach 1's aren't pushing that much more power than your F-bod. If you're spinning too much, try getting some nice fat sticky tires in the back, and/or remove your front swaybar for better weight transfer.

Montana is a bad place to race because 90% of their roads are dirt and the cops don't play around, now that the speed limit has been enforced. just becareful if by chance you ever roll through this state.

Mach 1, 96 Cobra, whatever...those 4 valve 4.6s are a pain in the *** to run with upstairs with a bone stock LT1, shaker or no shaker, lol. good tires, a chip (93) rockers and exhaust will take care of that. Oh yes, the front sway bar removed or lossened does wonders for your 60' times...

how come you guys are all so hard on him for street racing??? I don't condone street racing if its dangerous and all but if there is a race lined up and no traffic, meaning no one else but me can get hurt then i do street race and any one of you who claims or says that he hasn't street raced ever is just a liar. I'm am 100% sure that every single one of you guys has broken the rules a few times and just let loose on your F-body just to see how it screams and how hard it can go, or has been ni a highway or street race...... so I'm kinda confused with all the "don't street race" and all the negative comments you guys gave. Come on now, you don't go buy a 300hp+ car just to drive it like a granny now do you???

Yes getting busted by the cops is risky, but thats a risk that you and the other racer takes. If you feel its dangerous or not worth it then don't do it, but if you're all alone on the street and some punk kid comes up next to me in his riced up civic, hold on to seat coz its go time
