  • Nfb: Leaving next wed...

Well next wednesday i will be leaving for Fort Benning Georgia for 14 weeks of training. I will have nine weeks of basic then 5 weeks of infantry school. So until i get out of Infantry school the T/A will be under a car cover @ my moms place.

Once i graduate infantry school i will then have to go through Airborne school and then I try out for the special forces. I have always wanted to be in the special forces and have spent the last 4 months physically training and studying to try to make this dream possible.

Well i just figured i would let you guys know why i will be gone for awhile. So wish me luck because once I get to the special forces assessment and selection i am going to need it lol.

"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf"

Not sure if that is exactly how the quote goes but should be fairly accurate

Good luck. I hear that Fort Benning is a pretty tough place even for basic. I went to Fort Jackson, SC for mine. They called it "relaxin' Jackson". On another note, I'll be leaving Sunday for South Bend, IN. My job is flying me up there, so I'm not even gonna be here when my car is out of the shop from the gear and posi upgrade. I'll be gone for about a month and a half, but I should have access to the internet where I'm going.

You reminded me of a movie quote.....

Son, we live in a world that has walls and those walls need to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lieutenant Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and curse the Marines; you have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives and that my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives.
You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use then as the backbone of a life trying to defend something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you," and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest that you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.

Thank you for volunteering to guard the wall, while myself, my wife and my children enjoy the safety it provides. While ALL of us sleep in pleasant ignorance of those trying to kill us.

I love that quote Trace. Kinda sums up how i feel sometimes when i recieve criticism for this major choice I have made in life. A close friend asked me "Why you? Someone else can do that job. " My answer is always "I am proud to be that someone else you talk about." Thank you guys for all of your support.

I want to join the Military real bad but I have to take care of my dads company for right now. I dont know if anybody here has seen the movie with Mel Gibson called "We Were Soldiers" well to get to my point, I want to fly one of those helicopters than have the gatling gun on them that unload thousands of bullets per minute. Let alone those bullets are like 6 inches long. Man that would be so fun I think to mow people down esspecialy Iraqi's these days. You guys might think I'm crazy but I know im crazy.
Anyways good luck and maybe if I join the military we will see each other some time. And we can go Iraqi hunting. lol lol lol.
                  Good luck and God Bless.
