  • NFB: GTO...

I was at a Pontiac dealer this week and they had 2 GTOs on the floor. 2 quick observations:

    1) They are much better looking in person than in pictures

    2) They are not as expensive as I thought

There seemed to be a lot of people that thought they were too expensive - these 2 had stickers of 33K. While that is a lot of money it is not bad when you consider the other cars out there and even our own cars when they were new. I don't have the original sticker on mine but I am sure it was over 30K. Further the sales guy said he would sell the red one at sticker and would be willing to sell the purple one (PURPLE??) at a slight discount. I particularly liked the interior - very well done in my opinion. The guy fired one of them up for me and it sounded very nice - there is a difference in the sound of the GTO vs. the F-body - probably the true dual exhaust on the GTO. Just my .02.

Silver 02 WS-6, 6 speed, Corsa cat-back, SLP lid, K&N filter, BMR STB, !CAGs, Lou's short stick, MSD wires, MTI "Hammer" cam, ASP underdrive pulley, Hooker LTs, Hooker ORY, Comp 918s, TR pushrods, UMI Sfcs, UMI LCAs, NGK TR55s, Hotchkis springs

    Dyno'd 4/24: 330.9 RWHP/ 344.8 RWTQ (Before cam, headers, and pulley)

    Dyno'd 5/1: 383.5 RWHP / 380.5 RWTQ (393 actual RWHP)

I agree the interior is very well done. I went to the Detriot auto show and sat intwo different ones and was really impressed with the level of quality in these cars. They seemed to be better then the rest of gm's lineup. I was so impressed that I went to the dealer to see and hear one in person. So far I have been to two different dealers and both of them were willing to let me get in and fire them up. Awesome -just awesome. Now I own a 1995 LT1 with well over 100K on it, but this GTO was just so smooth. If I had the cash I wouldn't waste any time getting down there and buying one.

I am in complete agreement with you guys. I went to a Pontiac dealer Wednesday night and looked at a Metallic Black one. It was a truly beautiful car, much better than the pictures convey (the 93 Formula did the same thing to me back then). The interior fit and finish was on par with some of the best cars on the market. The leather was very comfortable and it wasn't cheezy like my 95 TA. The suede accents were a nice touch and the 6 speed was in just the right position. I was all set to start saving my cookies for a G35 coupe for my regular car (TA is my toy), but why pay 37 for a 6 when I can pay 33 for an 8 that's just as nice and will probably be less of a 'me too' car? Seems like there is a G35c on every corner of northern NJ...

Finally saw one the other day...looks like a lawer owned it. Anywho, it was black and again, much much better looking in person. Has a very powerful stance...but a lil bulky in the rear. All in all a beautiful car...

I don't understand why people think it's over priced...side by side to a WS.6 is a lil more expensive, but it'll beat out our interior and quality any day...to me that's worth the extra 1-2k.

Haven't heard or sat in one yet...but I sure do want to. But at the end, if I get a GTO it'll just be for commuting, going on appointments and taking clients out for dinner...cause the TA is a lil too much..but a GTO would be perfect. Oh well, I'll still pick a TA over a lot of things.

Autoway (big dealer in everything) in New Port Ritchie, ran an ad in yesterdays paper for GTO's at dealer invoice. I haven't gone up there to see what they have yet.

I stopped to see those 2 at Autoway in Port Richey. One yellow with nice 18" chrome wheels, and a silver one. The salesman spent more time asking me about my car than trying to sell me the GTO. He was suprised to learn I had the LS1, he had no idea.
