  • performance chip skeptics/proof?

im looking into getting a hypertech chip but i have ran across alot of skeptical information while doing research, i was wondering if anyone has done dyno or has any personal experiences with chipping their car. im only considering it because i have a chip available to me for about 1/4 the usual cost

I've seen dyno's of an LT-1 showing a 7-8 RWHP increase. That's with a Hypertech Programmer. As for a chipped 2.8L....I have no idea. I didn't even know they made a chip for that engine.

and the only step up from stock on that lt-1 was the chip, or even the only difference between the last dyno was the chip?

What kind of chip are you looking at? What mods have been done to the car? Cookie cutter chips are really only good to lower your temp points to turn your fans on/off and removing the top limit mph. Other than that, their useless. If you've done some big mods, then I would seriously consider having one custom burned.

Not sure...Have to wait to get home and check the link. But I don't think you can compare the results of an LT-1 with the 2.8V6. Results depend on mods and if the chip takes it into account. For example, does it take advantage of lower temps associated with a lower temp thermostat by advancing the timing as much as it could? Does it modify fuel maps at wide open throttle or at part throttle as well? I'm not really an expert on this, these are just some basics....

mod the motor first....THEN chip or reprogram....otherwise you are putting the cart before the horse. $$$$$$$$
