  • SCCA Solo 2

Just ran my first SCCA event. What a blast!!! I'm hooked. Time to rebuild the RS to street prep car.

I had a chance to ride shotgun in a full CP car. 14" slicks all the way around. Ford Cobra 2 with moded 302 pushing 450hp. I had no idea that a car could stick to the ground going that fast. What a rush!

One guy had a shifter cart out there. He was running 36's all day.

My instructor drives a 73 Cuda(500hp 360). He drove his Neon R/T to instruct new drivers. He drove a 53.5047 with me riding shotgun. Best run I could put up was a 53.0447 in my TA. Driving experience wins in any car!

What great event and great people. Everybody is willing to share tips on racing.

Oh, the Ford CP car ran 42.5054

Solo II is an Incureable Disease!

I started in 1968 with a '62 Chevy II. Got a Z-28 in '69 and put it on the course with 400 miles on the clock. You are really going to be surprised how much faster you will be after even a few events. I would forget the mods and learn to drive the car. When you are getting all you can out of it, then go for wheels and tires, trailer, tent, motorhome, grill, pneumatic wrenches, portable electrical power supply, spare hoses, belts, batteries, radio's, video equipment, helmet, cooler, driving suit and shoes, mechanic gloves, tire pressure gage, tire temperature gage, alignment tools and gages, add two bays to the garage, two post lift, alignment pit, tire machine, tire balance machine, roll-around tool chest, on-board data acquisition system with telemetry (next season), competition seat belt and shoulder harness, new brake pads, synthetic power steering fluid, water wetter, full set of car and class numbers / letters, roll-around jack and 4 stands, torque wrench, 20 real lug nuts - get rid of the security locks, another set of wheels and tires for rain, put Jeggs and Tire Rack on speedial, join SCCA, folding chairs for you and your crew, tarp, extra shoes and socks and good tee shirt....

      More later!
