My muffler's going out on my 93 Trans Am so I decided to put a new exhuast system on. Does anybody have any suggestions beside a Borla?(Too expensive) I would like to spend in between $250-$400.(Is that even possible?) If anyone has a tried and tested system on a LT-1 f-bod give me a holler. And if anyone has a good guestimate on the Hp gain on any give exhaust system, that would be greatly apprieciated. Also I'll have pics of my car this Sun. I dont think anybody remebers but I had a minor accident and so I had to get a new hadlight cover and front pass. fender. Well the car is primered up and the front and I got an artist body to draw some flames on a pattern I cut out and traced on the hood.
They'll be posted soon. Anywho thanks for any advice.

Flowmaster would be my pick. Summit carries them for about $330, and they ave a great sound. SLP makes some great stuff with the loudmouth and the two-on-the-left, not sure about prices on those though, probably on the higher end of your scale.

..dont you have to get that installation kit in addition for the LM from SLP, to mount the LM on 93-95 fbodies?

ohh... an LT1 with a loudmouth at WOT driving through NYC ?? the thought of that sends chills down my back talk about sick

but yeah because of the firing order of LT1's they are louder than LS1's. I dont think my LS1+LM is "too" loud though. especially inside the car it is pretty tame. if you're not at WOT its pretty civil, but once you give it a little gas everyone will know. But there is a guy with a '97 LT1 WS6 who lives down the road from me. His car is pretty loud, he's got the stock Ws6 exhaust on there. I can hear his car drive by if i'm in the living room, so it's got to be about as loud as my car... but i think mine just sounds a little nicer. you might want to try and find a ws6 exhaust off a totalled one or something. or if you dont want that loud, i've heard good things about mufflex? i think thats the name.

but yeah about my tailight... some fool decided to back into my car around midnight a month ago, smashed into it, then just drove off. never did find out who did it. but progressive took care of it lickity split. if you want to see before and after pics of the damage, they are on my car page linked in my signature.

I had a flowmaster on my 88 GTA, and I've got one on my 97 WS6. They've got a nice low growl to them, but then sound is subjective. Other people prefer other systems. My absolute favorite as far as sound goes is the SLP two-on-the-left. To me, you can't beat that sound. I just checked on SLP's website, and it runs $399 for the '93 system. A bonus is it's stainless steel, so it won't rust. The Flowmaster is aluminum and will rust.

For the extra $60, I'll change my answer and say the SLP 2-on-the-left, definately!

I put empasis on HP not sound, but HP is more of an estimate anyways, and sound is more definate. You said a stock WS-6 exhuast? That would be better than my stock one?

definitly. stock ws6 exhaust > stock trans am exhaust. The only two things that give the WS6 that extra 20 horses are the ram-air and the exhaust!

Yeah at WOT I would attract some attention from cops, they're itching these days, but on the other hand a lot of ricers with their fartcans I dont think LM would be as loud as a screeming civic. I was thinking of something more tame, flowmaster or magnaflow am looking for sound lips. Buddy of mine has a 200o mustang with the Flowmaster and cross pipe, and its loud and raspy kinda , maybe becasue the 4.6 revs higher.

meh. i think mustangs have the nicest sounding exhausts out of everyone, stock or aftermarket.

i know there's a website that has sound clips of all differently sized engines with all types of different exausts.... search this forum for it, i know its been posted several times.

I didn't say it was a bad sound, ..hmm here I am defending a stang.. hehe Let's just say they have a very specific sound to them.

I had a Flowmaster on my old car a 95 Formula. It sounded Ok but droned too much on the highway for my liking. Also I've heard they have about the worst flowing muffler for our cars. I'd go with the Loudmouth if you are gonna keep the cats and stock manifolds. I'm planning LT headers and off road Y pipe so loudmouth is out for me. I'm looking at the magnaflow right now. Good sound SS construction and all for around $300 or so. Seems like an excellent value. If you do a search you'll find all kinds of stuff about catbacks. Good Luck
