I dont deserve this car anymore!!!!!

So I'm late for work right? I show up with the t-tops off and swiftly put them on b4 work (because the condensation at night goos everything up.) For REASONS UNKNOWN to me, I didn't secure the passanger side t-top and decided i was late and i'll do it before I leave.

Five hours later...yea well I'm driving home on a long long two lane toll bridge(over water) with emergency stopping only. My windows are up no problems...then i hear wind like the window was down...it all happened so fast I look over and the T-Top is lifting up in the air and before i can realize whats going on it flys out of the car just like a vin deisel stunt in XXX. I abruptly make an emergency stop, sprint back a ways to where the T-Top landed...i didn't see it for a good strecth of road thinking it fell in the ocean...there it was shattered on the ground....

What a pain right? I'm so...theres no word to describe how I feel right now! What an IDIOT! I guess that will never happen again. Now i gotta find a replacement soon...I think I'll temporarily use the one out of my Camaro since the T/A is my nicer car.

I did the same thing. but mine was the drivers, and it landed upside down in a ditch without a scratch. I had the windows down drivin' all over the place. then I decide to see how quickly I could hit the 115 limiter, So I roll the windows up and hit it, About 85-90mph I heard that air leak sound, and then an heart stopping "Wooohh" and it was gonna. I looked back in the mirror as I was slowing down and I could see it reflecting in the darkness . I turned around couldn't find it so I turned around again, and it was sittin in the ditch, I took a breath picked it up and went home.

I've allways wanted to do it, but with me pushing it off, not if flying off itself.

One of my ex-girlfriends did the exact same thing on her IROC headed down to South Padre for spring break!

She had to drive all the way back (6 hr drive). Through scattered storms!

You're lucky you have one you can borrow until you get another one. I don't know what I would do.

I helped a friend of mine build a Bradley GT back in high school. It had gull wing doors that are removable. We had the doors off one day and got caught in a thunderstorm. We found refuge at a drive through bank.

Same thing happened to a buddy of mine in his 95 Z. He had his fly off on a major bridge here that you cant stop on. So he stops and gets out and it is sitting there fine and when he goes to get it a huge semi runs it over and shatters it. He was pissed. Luckily it was summer and he got one the next day. Man they are expensive.

A friend of mine had a 96 RS Camaro several years back. I was following behind him one day heading back to Dallas from Greenville TX on I30 and for some wierd brain fart reason, he decided to try to take his T-top off at about 70mph. It almost did fly off, how he didn't break his arm when he caught it is beyond me. But he ended up pulling it inside and stuck it in the passenger seat. Kinda scary to watch, but funny at the same time.

thats how this bridge was too...you bet your ass I stopped...middle of the road getting run over...just bought one of ebay $150 plus $35 shipping...mannnnn stupidity is expensive. I still cant believe that. That was a "i let my wife have the car for a day" mistake...not a f-bod enthusiast mistake.

i hope the new t-top will be the same interior trim color...are they all the same? its from a 98 firebird..i have a 98TA wS6

Don't worry, your not the stupidest person here.

Just yesterday I was at college and I decided to take a turn a little fast. I made the turn in front of the main building but there was loose dirt and gravel all in the road so I start to fishtail to the left so, of course, I slammed on the brakes and turned the wheel the other direction. I ended up running up on the sidewalk and ran over an 18" tall 6" thick piece of PVC pipe that had just been replaced a week or two ago. The administrators got ticked off and yelled at me and now I have to pay for the damages and am on academic probation for the rest of my time at college. I got off pretty easy though since I am a good student. The weird thing is that people over at that building (the automotive campus) do crazy stuff like this every day (even the faculty sometimes!) and no one ever gets in trouble until this.

Oh well. Sorry about your T-top, man.

It happened to my brother's '97 Formula. He thought he locked but after we got home he told me his T-Top flew off. Nice.

I've gotten into the habbit of grabbing it and shaking it to make sure it is in before I roll up the windows.

Happened to me on the way to the racetrack in 95,had forgotten to latch it when I was called to the phone.

Got to the track, made a cover out of racing tape and garbage bags and did the full program[what a mess to clean up though]

Called the local parts peddlers monday morning and found one at the 2nd place I called $175.00 CDN because it had a scratch.

I was very lucky and check the tops everytime I take the car now!!!!
