  • Wrecked F-bods

I'd like to take a poll.

How many of us have taken a f-body and destroyed it. It could had been in an accident, or simply parting one out. If it was an accident it doesnt matter who's fault it was.

Please state its year, and options.

    Me:
1995 Z28 Black with all options, T-tops, leather, 6 speed.
    RIP.

I killed my first F-Body when I hit a patch of gravel while swerving to miss a deer in my 95 Formula and ended up in the Guardrail. It was totalled by the insurance company. It had all options except leather and power seats. It was an A4 with Flowmaster catback and K&N drop in and all "free" mods. I had just rebuilt the headlight motors with metal gears the week before I did salvage the gears and sell them though. It was a shame to see her go but I like my Z28 better....Later

When you say wrecked...do you mean totalled, or just an accident? lol

The T/A has been through a lot. First, I was making a left turn and there was lots of oil on the ground. Needless to say, I fishtailed into a curb. Snapped the axle, broke the caliper/pads, LCA was cut in half, tire/rims smashed, fender crunched, rotor cut in half, e-brake line cut, ground effect damaged, front rim scratched up, center piece emblem shattered. After over $6k in repairs, she's still running great. Luckily it happened in '99 when the car was still worth $13k. The funny thing is, as soon as the axle snapped, I still was able to control driving the car for about 200 feet, as I pulled into a parking lot to get it out of the street. All this on 3 wheels.

Then, as you know, the fuel system was messed up by the sugar vandalism. That was about $4k for an entirely new fuel system.

She still runs after many beatings...gotta love the 4th gen f-body's strength!

I mean no longer on the street, because it is destroyed beyond repair, or missing to many pieces to fix.

Your car sure has been through the ringer. Doesnt look bad for it, either.

If I ever crashed my Z28 I don't know what i'd do. I've come quite close with bad collisions quite a few times here though coz the drivers in the UAE (where i'm currently living) are psycho drivers and most drive 4wd's which would squish my poor Z28. At least you guys got the cash back from the insurance, its too damn expensive for me to fully insure my car here though coz i'm too young (21) and no one wants to insure my car, so I got to be really careful.

Thanks Tracy. Hopefully she'll have a long live.

zwrangler, have you tried to check around with different insurance companies? I've had my T/A since I was 18 and also had full coverage since then. Even with the accident on my record, at 18, I paid $1400/6 months - quite high but expected because of the accident. After it was cleared, it dropped to $750/6 months.

well like i mentioned, i live in the UAE. car accidents here are sooooooo common its not funny. Last year I had the car insured fully under my dads name and it took the 7th insurance company to agree on this. My dad is 53 and never had any accidents here and yet it cost us around $1000u.s. per year to insure the whole car which only cost $6000 in the first place. So this year i've only got third party. heres some stats of the UAE:

Nearly 2 deaths occur every day in the UAE with a population of less than 3million. A total of 10,475 accidents resulting in 673 deaths and 11,471 injuries in 2001.

Zwrangler I've seen first hand what you are talking about. During a recent "trip" to Southwest Asia I got the chance to slip into Doha, Qatar for some R&R. I've never seen so many hopped up Porches, Lambo's, Ferarri's and Lotus' in my life...and the poeple driving them were total idiots. I'm talking 90 mph on congested streets....drifting in the traffic circles and just total disregard for stop signs and traffic lights. You are literaly taking your life into your hands by getting behind the wheel there. No wonder insurance is tough to get. Good luck and be careful!

1994 black Z28, a-4 flowmaster, no cat, cutout, 3.73:1, t-tops, k&n. racing a corvette c-4 a guy blew a stop sign in a mini van and hit me in the passenger door. the race had just started, and we had gotten up to about 30 mph when this guy came out of ths side street at over 40mph. he was taken away in hand cuffs. camaro was folded in half so bad that the drive shaft popped out of the tranny.

so in "Black Sunshine"'s memory, i bought a mystic teal metallic 1994 Z with t-tops, a-4 and 3:42's. i am in the process of saving this one from the scrap heap.

                            94 Z meets gaurdrail

My 94 Z28 loaded t-tops met its fate with a gaurdrail but I bought it back and resurected most of its major parts in a 95 Camaro that had a v-6 so it is actually still with me in spirit and power
