  • NFB Vette vs. 350z

I try to remain the voice of reason when it comes to "car talk" around the office. Wiithout having checked my facts (duh), I came to the defense of the Vette as being signifcantly better performer.

Well later, I look it all up, and now I am confused and red faced. The cars have simlar curb weights (within 150 lbs - advantage Vette), but come with a large gap in power (287 vs 345 right?). Why are the performance figures so similar (numbers from car rags)?

Both are approx 13.5 sec cars, 0-60 within .2-.3. For 15Gs less for the Nissan?

Only the Z06s are in the 12s (low-mid) stock, right?

Am I missing something or is detroit snoozing again?

I love Vettes, say it isn't so.

Don't know where you got 13.5 for both cars...a good running C5 will run very low 13s. A great driver can bring it into the high 12s. I've yet to see a 350Z in the mid to high 13s. Maybe a very high 13 at best. We can't rely on magazines for accuracy, but we can look for consistency...Motor Trend tested the 350Z at 14.02 while a ragtop A4 Vette was 13.1. Hmmmm....not much of a comparison there.

Nope. Don't know where you got your stats from, but they are wrong. The Z is mucho slower than 13.5........ more like low 14s.

The C5 will stomp the 350Z. Not to mention styling, lower drag coefficient, handling, looks, and the sound of the extra 2 cylinders.

You can argue about perforamnce numbers, but styling and looks are matter of taste.

well even if the corvette and 350z had the same power, just look at which one has so much more potential. What I mean is that a vette modded to 500hp would blow the dorrs off a 350z modded to 500hp. Vettes are in my opinion the best cars to modify and have more potential than any other normal street car i can think of.

Also, the 350Z came out this year whereas the C5 came out in '97 which is a much older model in terms of technology and the HP war...even so, the Vette is far superior. The C6 comes out this fall...campare the new vs. the new...oh wait, there is no comparison Those rags aren't worth the paper they are printed on.
