hmm.... it depends. A Manual choke is manually adjustable every time you use it. An electric is set and forget, but doesn't do terribly well in radical temperature changes. Back in the days of carbs here in Florida, it wasn't uncommon to start your car in the morning with a temp of 48º. You go out to the car late afternoon to drive home and it was 80º. You set the choke for the temps that you see in the morning, not the afternoon or else the car wouldn't want to start in the morning, idled really lean and lopey, etc.
Now you see why computer controlled fuel injection is such a step up.
You have to decide if you want to set and forget, or do it manually.
It sould be that the choke is not adjusted right. You can turn the choke disk back and forth for rich/lean.
Also check the choke pull off to see if the diaphram is working. Its the round disk shaped thing with a vacuum hose attached to it. Unplug the hose and push the level in towards the disk chamber and plug the hole up with your finger and release. If it slides back all the way then you have a leak and it needs to be replaced.

Ah....grasshopper, the joys of carb tuning have blessed you with it's presence.
What Steve said. You'll have to mess with it. "Cold" and it may take a week's worth of mornings to get it just right. Then be prepared to mess with it every time the seasons change if you still want it perfect. Not a major adjustment, but an adjustment.

nope, had cars that were carbed, and have driven many cars that are carbed, but for practicality and driveablity purposes, FI rules. Period.
now for pure performance and for 1320 guys, I would say that carbs arent' that bad. Example, a guy I know just got done with his fiberglass bodied '32 Roadster. The motor is a big-block, honed to like a 502 with forged everything inside, twin 850s on top, and a big 'ol blower on top of that. Yes, it hauls, but only gets 2mpg

What are you talking about? The guy asked a tech question, we're answering it. You keep mentioning fuel injection which has nothing to do with the fact that he is tuning a carb, You then say "nope" to what? Nobody was even referring to a thing you posted until I just did.

sorry, I misread your post when you said:
"Ah....grasshopper, the joys of carb tuning have blessed you with it's presence. "
Now that I re-read it and all, I admit I screwed up, but I thought that was toward me in my post where I mentioned EFI, in that your saying that I haven't experienced carb tuning yet.
I apologize, Master
