  • question about locking gas caps

I've noticed that my locking gas cap does not lock fully! When I was filling up the other day, I turned the cap to 3 clicks, just as the instructions say. I turned it back to the left to make sure it was locked....and it was. So just out of curiosity, I tightened the cap again, a few more clicks, then tried to loosed it. The thing just loosened right up and unscrewed off. I have tried this numerous times and I get similar results. I thought mine was defective, but Steve93Z has the same one....and it does the exact same thing.

So if anyone can, please try this on your cap...
    - Tighten the cap to 3 clicks, then turn it counter-clockwise to make sure it's locked. Then, tighten it several more clicks and try to loosen it. If it does not loosen, repeat the steps a few times.
    - If it still is locked well, use the key to unlock it and pull it off. Try the previous steps again.

Please let me know your results. If this were true for all "locking" caps, and if any punk kids knew about this, the tank could easily be tampered with again.

BTW, the cap is a Stant. Thanks in advance.

    wow, thats come BS

I used to have a locking one on my generator, and I don't remember having to "click it" closed or anything like that, just put it on, do something special, and turn the key. I do need to get a locking for my car soon, so I guess I have to ask about that .
