  • HOLY COW, i think this might s%$k

ok, so i have a 1994 Z-28, and the motor was kind of grungy, and its going to go to the body shop soon and i want it to not look like crap. so i sprayed the engine down with De-greaser, and hosed it off while it was running, and it ran fine. i got all done, shut it off and went about washinghte rest of the car. then i went to start it to put it back in the garage, and no dice it wont start and it cranks hard. did i wreck my opti? brand new battery put in yesterday, car has been sitting since sept, and not driven but started every so often with out a problem. i am going to wait a while and try it again to see what happens. but do you think my opti is toast?

    bad move.

could be opti......could be some exposed wires someplace..
don't ever spray your engine down with water man.

Happened to me on the way to my first ISCA car show,my sponsor pressure washed the engine,,,,BAD MOVE.

Car got taken down to the show on a float[not original plan],car sat for 4 days and when the show was over, got in crossedc my fingers and turned the key,VROOOOOM,it dried out over the 4 days of the show!!!!

Let it sit ,or you can put a fan on it or go over it with a hair dryer, but it should start once really dry!!!

      Good luck!!!

well as fate would have it, it wouldnt start after about an hour, and the cranking burned out the starter. so its off to buy a new one today, and i hope its just that, and the rest has dried out

If you're going to wash an LT1 engine bay, use a unpressurized system, and keep it off the front of the motor. So long as you don't get the opti wet, you should be fine. I do it that way and haven't had a problem. Just don't use a pressure washer or anything.

            To add to Fastbird93's comments:

If you MUST wash your engine like this at least cover the opti with some saran wrap or a garbage bag and do your best to stay AWAY from that area with a low pressure water hose!!!

I've never washed any motor I've had this way...always just used a rag and did it all by hand...I've been mighty tempted to do it tough!

Never had any problems washing my engine bay. I usually use a degreaser that is diluted with water. I spray it on, then crank the engine and hose it down (no presure), but I stay off the opti and then I blow it out with a air hose while it is running. Then wipe down with a rag, then use Black Magic sprayed onto another rag for all of the hoses and black stuff. Never had any problems with any of my cars, and the engine bay looks like new.

Sorry about your luck though. I have friends that trust me to clean their engines before they do it.... Just got to know where to spray and where not to spray. Hope you get your car fixed good.

well i replaced the smoked starter tonight and she fired right up, still stumbles a lot but atleast i got it in before it sleets tonight. now i am debating weather to change the opti, and leave it stock or, change the opti and go multi coil.
