  • Multi coil setup on an LT-1

has any one done it? was it simple? (on scale of 1 it stinks to 10 it was great) how much money did it cost, and what do you need to do to the stock ECU if any thing?

I think Fred F. has done it, I know I WILL do it when my opti dies...perhaps he'll post on it.

Here is his site for more info:

There are at least 2 ways to run 8 LS1 coils on an LT1:

      1. Get the LTCC "box" from Bob Bailey. Uses only the optical signal from the Optispark and allows the stock PCM to drive the 8 coils.

      2. Aftermarket ECU... I run a MoTeC M48Pro, with their IEC 8-channel ignition driver. Again, the cam and (pseudo) crank position info comes from the optical sensor in the Opti. You could do the same thing without the Opti, if you use a cam position sensor, but the typical cam position sensor will not provide the extremely high accuracy info supplied by the Opti. The Opti is really extremely reliable once you take the high voltage function out of it.

There is also another alternative, using a 4-coil pack from the Northstar V8. This "box" is made by an outfit called Delteq. The Stage 1 box uses the Opti optical signals, and an ignition controller and coils from the GM Northstar engine. The Stage 2 box (not yet available) is supposed to eliminate the Opti completely.

You can also use the FAST Edist: http://www.fuelairspark.com/Informat.../FS2001/12.pdf & http://www.sratrans.com/fastedist.htm
