  • Tranny fluid change.

I went to LeeMyles today to ask about tranny fluid change, the guy insisted that I put in Synthetic in it, extra $$. Is it safe to put in Synthetic in my 93 TA, it has 121k on the clock, I had it for a year now, all i know the tranny has never been rebuild, it had a pump change, no visible leaks, no shifting problems besides the regular kick when slecting to drive , occasionaly. Anyway just droping the pan only releases about 1/3 of the oil in it, so is mixing with synthetic healthy? Thanks in adavance.
    1993 TA SOLD

Much is going to depend on the type of service done. A total fluid change is different than a simple drop the pan and change the filter routine. A change involves disconnecting the trans cooler lines from the radiator, the fluids are pumped out and replaced after the pan filter has been changed. Specialty shops have a machine for just such a purpose. This takes care of all fluid in the converter, valve body and lines. IMHO, the only way to do it right. With your kind of miles, I wouldn't switch. I think you'll be inviting leaks. The synthetic oil molecule is a little smaller and can start leaking in high mileage applications.
