Unless you're gonna start bolting on turbos or superchargers, or you're gonna start doing some intense inner-engine work, I think you've got plenty of horsepower. LT1's are pretty fast straight out of the boxOriginally posted by 95z28

so why not beef up the suspension? all the power in the world means jack squat if you can't get it to the ground, or get the whole car around a curve...

What would it take (mods and moneywise), to get an LT1 up to par with a WS6?Originally posted by briantech98

Just horsepower wise you mean?Originally posted by Fast Mother

A coldair ram-air intake (FTRA is $170), and a freer flowing exhaust (SLP LM is $300).
Thats it, engine wise. Only other diff that WS6's have is the badge on the bumper, suspension upgrades, and different wheels.

Wow, so for $470 more, You can get a 320-325 HP car? Impressive....that's an extra 50 ponies.Originally posted by briantech98

I'm sorry, maybe I should have clarified...I was asking about a Z28 LT1, I guess just replace the *cold ram-air intake WS6* for the SS intake?

Re: Re: So what do i buy next ??
I kind of agree. I just ordered SFC, sway bars and shock tower brace as a kit from http://www.lmperformance.com/ . They have some kit prices that are pretty good. It knocked off $72.80 off the individual price (including shipping). I also got a flow booster. http://www.lmperformance.com/1814/2.html It was cheap.Originally posted by briantech98

No... no. (Correct me if i'm wrong but) LT1's had 275 HP in 93-95, and 285 HP in 96 and 97.Originally posted by Fast Mother

WS6 LT1's had 305 HP in 96 and 97.
If you want 320-325 HP out of an LT1, you're gonna have to either replace it with an LS1 or spend more than $500 in mods
Yes, that will work too. Is the SS intake not a ram-air type system? Or is it just cold air?I'm sorry, maybe I should have clarified...I was asking about a Z28 LT1, I guess just replace the *cold ram-air intake* for the SS intake?
Eh, either way. If you have a Z28, and you dont plan on buying an SS hood, then the FTRA intake is a good way to go. Or the austin ram air... or any host of other aftermarket ram airs..

Well, my goal is to shut up this little 16 year old punk with a 98-02 Trans Am WS6 that lives next to me, or at least put up some competition. 320 ponies would make me a very happy man. How much extra HP does an exhaust give on a norm? An LT1 @ 275hp + the hood= about 290, plus an exhaust and a few other mods should put me around 320, right?Originally posted by briantech98

With out going into a long discussion, just buy you a NX Nos kit for the LT1 (wet system), about $650, and you should be able to pull him by 2 car lengths with just a 75 shot......
I had a 99' Z28 that was running 8.6 in the 1/8 and my buddy had a 96' Z28 that had NOS (no other mods) and he was running 8.3s in the 1/8 all day long, with no damage to his engine, its also his daily driver....
Oh yeah, some good rubber also helps too. Got to get those ponies to the ground!______________________________

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: So what do i buy next ??
Nah you're gonna get owned, sorry. Those "325" horses that the WS6 puts out is underrated by GM, dramatically. He's probably pushing anywhere from 335-345 real horsepower from the crank.Originally posted by Fast Mother

You're gonna have to do more than the hood and exhaust. I don't think there are any bolt-ons that will get you beating an LS1 WS6.
So your options are turbo, SC, or N20.... or hope he's a really bad driver

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: So what do i buy next ??
Uh...lets not start with ricer math here (45hp from just an intake and exhuast???)...LS1s are known to be underrated engines...320BHP, but then dynoed with more than 310RWHP...even more if it's a factory freak. You'll be spending a lot more than 500 bucks to get it running close to a 98+ WS6...and believe me...intake and catback isn't gonna cut it. I'm no LT1 tech, but I know you'll need more than that to keep up.Originally posted by Fast Mother

its not worth over a thousand dollars on mods to attempt to keep up with a 98+ ws6 just cause u dont like the kid. if u wanna mod your car go right ahead but dont do it because someone pisses u off

On my 95 Lt1, after the cold air intake(not ram air) and exhaust, I did a gear swap from 2.73 to 3.73, the pulled the 1.5 rockers in favor of 1.6 rollers. The gear swap is the best bang for the buck I think, besides NO2, but get ready to upgrade the suspension, because the touque goes way up. And also a programmer will be necessary for the transmission and wheels calibration.95 Trans am-3.73 posi, 1.6 rollers, cold air induc. flowmaster, no cat.'s, power programmer w/ 160 degree stat, torque arm, bbk underdrive pulley, 52mm throttle body.

Gears should spice it up a lot - great bang for the buck mod. If his LS1 is particularly weak with no mods and you have some mods and a strong running LT1 you never know. Do some research on aftermarket higher stall torque convertors (sp?). I see a lot of people posting that replacing the TC made a huge difference.Silver 02 WS-6, 6 speed, Corsa cat-back, SLP lid, K&N filter, BMR STB, !CAGs, Lou's short stick, MSD wires, MTI "Hammer" cam, ASP underdrive pulley, Hooker LTs, Hooker ORY, Comp 918s, TR pushrods, UMI Sfcs, UMI LCAs, NGK TR55s, Hotchkis springs
