Is the GMMG cat-back system worth the money? It looks and sounds great but how does it perform?

Many claim that it is the absolute best sounding cat back system for the F-Body. Personally, I dont think its worth the money. It is far too expensive. Look into getting the SLP Loudmouth, especially if you have an LT1. Borla also makes a great cat-back, but is also quite pricey. However, it is still less than other systems such as the GMMG and Corsa.1996 Arctic White Z28, A4, K&N CAI, TByrne MAF ends, BBK Twin-52mm TB, TB Bypass, SLP 1 3/4" Shorties, Richmond 3.42's, Dynomax Bullet Muffler W/Turn Down, BMR Adj. Panhard, EIBACH Pro-Kit, AFS ZR1 Wheels W/17x11" out back!

now I have a question. Is it better to buy the cat-back or could you just go with the name brand muffler and use your stock pipes? Also, which would give more horesepower, a cat-back (or mufflers only) or an exhaust cutout??95 Trans am-3.73 posi, 1.6 rollers, cold air induc. flowmaster, no cat.'s, power programmer w/ 160 degree stat, torque arm, bbk underdrive pulley, 52mm throttle body.

Get the whole thing. I would imagine installing an aftermarket muffler to the stock pipes would be a nightmare. You already have to saw through the stock pipe in one place as it is...Originally posted by WS6 freek

If you want horsepower from exhaust, a simple cat-back isn't all that great. The real gains come from headers and y-pipe. After basically just an airlid, tuning, headers, y-pipe, and cat-back, I am throwing 345 HP and 360 TQ to the rear wheels.
BTW: About your sig... mine would still be under warranty, lol...

Is tuning neccesary after an aftermarket air lid is installed?? I am looking into doing that. Maybe I can get it without voiding the warranty. I still have about 75,000 miles untill the warranty runs out, so I will be slaying the 'stangs with only 325hp, boo-hoo!!95 Trans am-3.73 posi, 1.6 rollers, cold air induc. flowmaster, no cat.'s, power programmer w/ 160 degree stat, torque arm, bbk underdrive pulley, 52mm throttle body.

Do not replace just the stock muffler. I tried that and ended up spending more because of all of the custom work that needed to be done. I had a 96 Z28 and I bought what was supposed to be a "replacement" muffler made by Flowmaster. It was supposed to be direct fit. Other than having different diameter input from the cat pipe, different diameter exhaust pipes, and being a different size overall it was.
Absolutely not worth it. I am happy with the Corsa - although it is not cheap. I needed it to be tame at cruise but wanted it loud when pushing it. Corsa promised this and delivered.

No tuning is necessary after just a simple airlid, and it should not void your warranty. If your dealer tells you it is voided, tell them they are full of it and take it to another dealer. A cat-back shouldn't void it either.Originally posted by WS6 freek
