  • EXHAUST Question - PLEASE HELP!!!

I currently have a '95 T/A that I have stroked to a 383 w/the canton oil pan installed and I have had the JBA headers on the car w/the y-pipe into a borla catback system for some time. Unfortunately, I am having serious problems with the system going back together after removing the y-pipe, due to the large pan, and have toyed with the idea of doing a true dual system. Also, I have lowered the car with eibach springs so ground clearance is not good. What recommendations would you make on this type of system and would long tube headers be ok for ground clearance on a lowered 4th gen f-body?

Hi there!.. many folks have had problems with long tubes on lowered f-bodies as far as clearance issues. You could mock up something size equivilent from cardboard and see where it sits. The usual problem is over things like speed bumps or going in and coming out a driveway. It does seem like your car could benefit from a true dual system. Another cheaper (possibly) option would be to get some custom piping done to work around you pan and utilize what can be salvaged from the current exhaust

Yeah I was afraid of that considering it is prettly low and after looking and the LT headers they look like they will stick down pretty far. What are your takes on ST headers and would you recommend anything other than the JBA's I have? I really hate working on headers cause the space sucks and it takes all day, also over the years I have had a hell of a time with burning plug wires and have had to wrap the headers (I hated that cause they are ceramic coat and look really nice) to keep them from cooking the wires. Any better ways on the 4th gen f-body's to reroute the wires and keep them off the headers?

I say an article in Super Chevy that said that TPIS headers are good for ground clearence even on lowered cars. They also said the are one of the best performing headers also.

It not usually the headers that cause ground clearance problems. It's the aftermarket y pipes. Most times a lowered car will need a custom fabbed Y pipe.

On the drivers side of my custom Y-Pipe...my fabricator used oval 3.5" oval tubing to aide with clearance...works like a champ!

I doubt the image will work... so view it here (probably have to cut/paste it into your browser):

That sounds great, but your pic didn't come through. Could you e-mail it to me or try some other way, I am very curious to see your work. Also, what headers did you use and what would you recommend coming off of AFR heads, also trying to stay legal cause Houston is really bad about the sniffer test, so I need something that will tie into EGR. Thanks for your help and let me know.

Did you try clicking the link as suggested in my post? That seems to work ok...I even cleared my cache to ensure it wasn't reading off my local hard drive.

If cutting/pasting nor the link work...go here and you can browse a few different pictures:
