  • Weird stumbling when stoping

Ok, there's a weird stumbling of rpms when stopping... when you break, the rpms usually stay at around 750-1000rpm right... well SOMETIMES, not always, when stoping, my car's rpms will drop until 500 an the engine seems to miss and stumble... sometimes it even dies (usually when im turning the wheel) and the CHECK GAUGES light comes on... i turn it back on and everything is back to normal

I can keep it from halting by giving it some gas but it wont even out until it goes above 1000-1100 rpm... then everything goes back to normal... it does this warm and cold and just randomly... there's no pattern of any kind and no check engine light

Any ideas on what could be causing this problem? Is my computer going crazy?

Most likely the IAC(idle air control solenoid) is either dirty or perhaps aged. The IAC is responsable for metering air into the engine when the throttle blades are closed like at idle or slowing down. The IAC, by metering additional air, keeps the idle stable and keeps the engine running when you let the throttle close and is indeed monitored by the ECM. Many times no code will be present, just a strange tendency to shut down when approaching a red light, or maybe something simple like whacky fuel correction, incorrect IAC corrections, etc.... It's located right up by the throttle body and can be unscrewed, cleaned and half the time it works. The other half, a new IAC might be needed.

Could also be a vacuum leak too.....

I second that. Here is a picture of it. http://shbox.com/1/iac3.jpg

I recently cleaned my air filter... you know, oiling it... could oil residues be causing this? I'm not sure if I waited long enough for it to dry up I was told this could have messed up my MAF and it needs a cleaning...

Yup. Pull the MAF, spray electical contact cleaner on the elements and if the oil was the problem, it won't be for long.
