While that video was very cool, scenarios in which a robot can become "self aware" are so science fiction that it really does need to stay in the movies.

Anyone with a background in programming or computer science understands just how unfathomable it is for a computer to become "aware". AI developments, while becoming quite sophisticated, are still only capable of mimicking humans. I don't doubt that someday we could possibly build robots that move like that one did.... but the whole idea of robots taking control of themselves and suddenly becoming concious, well, thats just not going to happen. We don't even have a basic understanding of what our own conciousness is... we've mapped the nueral networks of our brains, we understand how neurons communicate with each other, we understand most of the input/output mechanisms of our brain... but once it gets to that barrier between flesh and mind, we really have no clue. And if WE don't know how it works, then there's no way we can ever program a computer to do it as well.


Now, some other evil humans could most definitly program robots to do horrible things... but the robots themselves will never just wake up one day and go "whoa, lets kill everyone" and band together, ala terminator. it makes for nice movies but its just not feasible.

Secondly I seriously doubt our government would EVER build some kind of computerized, un supervised, fully autonomous network that controlled everything. Computers are tools, like a hammer or a lawn mower. We are still the ones doing the work, we just use the tools to take care of the hardwork, while we are still left with the executive, upper level decisions.



Also the one in that video ... why is it running DOS? LOL. I guess it needs to know the status of its directory structure as its patrolling the streets of bangladesh.

If you look at the state of the art robots from Honda and Toyota they don't move anywhere as well as that actor/cyberdrawing.

Still decades away from building anything that sophisticated,and anyone building robots would last of all want to create a biped,very impractical,that is just human ego trying to instill itself into real science!!!

brian, I agree with you but there's something telling me that the govt. does possess technology like that. I'm not saying exactly like the robot in the video, but maybe something close to it. Look at Area 51, if the govt. denies it's existance then why are there warning signs to stay away and that deadly force will be used if you tresspass?

I also believe in the Roswell incident. I believe the govt. does possess a UFO or some kind of UFO technology.

I don't think anything truly on the bleeding edge is being done at area 51, aka groom lake. It's much too well known. Area 51 is , imho, kind of the government's puppet "secret" area... they might still be testing out new stuff there but i doubt its the super super super top secret stuff.

no, i'd warrant the government has several hidden facilities scattered around the country. area 51 is common knowledge, its almost a tourist attraction more than it is a secret military base. i think they are just keeping it around to divert attention.

But I do agree that the gov probably has ultra top secret, prototype technology that would scare most of us.

And while the cynic in me wants to just blow off any claims of the gov having posession of any kind of alien, or alien technology... the paranoid conspirist in me thinks there are too many "coincidences" for there to be NOTHING going on.

I also seriously doubt we're alone in the universe. I also seriously doubt humans are around today because some chemicals mixed together 14 trillion years ago. The earth is just too PERFECTLY positioned in relation to the sun, the earth just happens to have a PERFECT amount of elements to support life, the earth just HAPPENS to have tons of H20 covering its surface... if we evolved from amphibians then where's the evidence? there are fossil records of everything pretty much... there's dinosaurs, mammals and then BAM one day humans arrive and we start getting recorded history. its just too abrupt, too coincidental to be based purely on chance.

its foolishness to think there's not some kind of higher entity than us out there. so i dont see why that entity couldn't have created other life forms.




of course then i've heard the theory that what happened in roswell is really just humans from the (very very) far future who sent out a probe into space, and it went back in time. but thats stretching it.
