  • Let me introduce myself...

Hey all, my name is Joe, i recently got a 1991 firebird v6 off my brother with 185,000 miles, with my bro as the original owner, im 20 years old and work at a bodyshop as a detailer, i would lik some advice from you guys, ok, heres whats wrong with the car

Driver side window doesnt go up or down (power)
Trunk pull down isnt working, (stays up that little bit)
    Oi pressure guage doesnt work
    and best of all,,,
when the headlights are on and you step on the brake, all the interior lights go on, its prolly a short or bad ground, i have to brin it to the eletrical guy, what i woul like to know is if any of these poblems are common with these 3rd gens and what the solution is, i could take it to my shop once i get it on the road once i get my tax check, but it doesnt hurt to ask anyway, right?

I wll post link to my cardomain site once i get the pics. any help or advice relating to firebirds is well appreciated!!! Thanks Ladies and Gentlemen!

Welcome, the problems you have arent REAL common, but not unusual. The trunk pull down motor is very common - its probably bad. The side window is either the switch or the motor, but check the wiring while youre at it. The oil pressure is most likely a bad sender, but maybe the wire got pinched in the bellhousing at some point, so check the wiring.

it will get fixed one way or another anyway, was just curious, i got everyone in my body shop ready to start workin on the car for me lol. i been for a car like this since i got my liscense.
what does everyone think about the 185k miles, should i drop a new engine, or just take care of this one? i was told its not really so bad cause he was the original owner and as long as i take care of it now, that miles dont really mean anything.

As long as the previous owner didn't abuse the motor too much it should last a while. My 91 Camaro had 175,000 miles on it and it was running strong and the two previous owners dogged it all the time. The only reason I rebuilt the motor was because I had the chance to do it myself and I couldn't pass that up!

You might want to check out www.thirdgen.org it is a great website and forum for 3rd gens. They can probably help you out a lot their, too.

Are there any signs of a lot of mileage on the motor? Does it burn oil or coolant, is there a lack of power, does it smoke at all, is the idle bad? If there aren't any really big signs of wear or abuse, it should still last a while.

Oh yeah, and welcome to the forum!!

Thanx for the advice and the welcome, the car was never abused and it runs perfect, pretty well maintained as far as the engine, whats the price range on rebuilding a 3.1 v6 91 birds engine? thanks for all your help,i appreciate it and so will my bird, and it should last me a while cause im the type of idiot who pours their weekly paycheck into their car then has no money for gas during the week
