  • stock LS1 + $1000 = 12's?

What could (would) you do with a stock LS1, if you had $1000, and get the car into the 12's?

Is it even possible for that amount? Try and focus on just getting the engine faster, not taking tires / gears into consideration.

*edit* gah... keep it NA, all motor! of course nitrous would do it, but you wouldn't have an engine after 4 or 5 runs.

    Nitrous. Yes.

That is just a nasty myth. Set it up right, and there won't be problems.

If you must keep it all motor, I would say that a hotter cam would probably be the best way to go...

...that, and hope that you are a good driver, with a strong car to begin with... and I think you could do it.

Hell... a few freak LS1s have hit high 12's stock. So it is definitely possible... probable... ?... that's another story...

EDIT: I have put in about $2000 in power upgrading mods on my car... and I most definitely SHOULD hit 12s with this setup. A little more practice, and I think I wil be there.

Yeah, i was going to say... I'm not trying to hate on your car here, but with most LS1 owners claiming that "a lid and an exhaust will get an LS1 into the 12's".... well you've got way more than that. Yours is a '02, so you've got the LS6 thingy, right? And you're pushing 345 at the wheels (is that dyno'd or just a guess?)

And I thought stock LS1's did 13.1 easy... and you've got practice!

I dont think i'm gonna break 15 the first time I take it to the track ...

HAHA... you will break 15, don't worry.

My first time ever down a strip, I hit 13.5.

My best time stock was 13.3, and I wish I still had that timeslip laying around, because I think I pulled off a pretty miraculous number for the 60'.

345 rwhp, 360 rwtq was shown on the dyno at Speed, Inc. in Schaumburg, Il.

And yes, mine is an 02, so I have the LS6 intake manifold.

Right now I am farting around iwith high 2.1 60's... as soon as I get lucky and nail that 60, I should see 12s.

If you can find headers for a good price, and buy a cam, install them yourself, and then get a dyno-tune, I think you will have enough power to do it.

so what exactly do you do with a 6 speed? can you launch it at all? Like sit there with the clutch in, put it at what like 3k rpms? then drop the clutch, floor it... when do you shift? if you just keep flooring it and never shift, will the engine blow or does it hit some kind of rev limiter or something?

so then lets say you shift at like 6500 or so... do you just keep it floored and try to shift real fast, or do you let off the gas while shifting and then floor it again...

and typically how many gears do you go through to get through the 1/4? all the way to 4th or 5th?

guess he didn't believe in the principle of "breaking in" a brand new car, eh? geez.

Theres a few tracks out here. I'm afraid to take my WS6 out there cause I've never dragged on a track and i'm afraid i'll do everything wrong. Any general driving advice/tips you guys would be great. I think i'm gonna wait till i get new tires to go out there...mine spin a lot.

Stock F1 tires? If so, that's one uber freak.

I launch from about 1800... I have the clutch right at its mesh point with the left foot... when that last light goes yellow, I'll quickly start to feather the clutch out while flooring the gas pedal.

Obviously this isn't the BEST way to do it, or else I would be getting 1.9 or 2.0 60's.

There is a rev limiter at 6000. No matter though, the horsepower peak is at 5400 RPMs, and it would make no sense to try to drive the engine far beyond that. I have decided to try shifting at around 5700 or 5800 next time to the track. Not only does the engine make no power that high, if you drive the stock engine to much higher than 6500 RPMs, you can say hello to valve float. Then enjoy replacing your pushrods after your piston comes up and smacks an open valve.

I will also try powershifting next time. I had been letting off the gas and shifting as fast as I possibly could. I know that if I try to powershift 1-2, I just bust the rear tires lose, and I spin to the top of 2nd... so next time I will be powershifting 2-3 and 3-4. I cross the line shortly after hitting 4th gear.

... go to the track and have fun.

I would do cam, LT's, Whisper Lid, LS6 intake manifold, and ported throttle body.

You could go with a cam such as the Thunder Racing 224 cam. Specs are 224/224 @ .050", .563/.563, 112 LSA 1700-6600 RPM Power Band.

You could do all the above for around $1200 and make around 360-370 RWHP.

That should put you deep into the 12's!
