Activist with the DC based Mobilization for Global Justice are planning rallies/demonstrations for the weekend of April 24 -25, 2004. These demonstrations/rallies are being held to protest the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund & World Bank (IMF/WB). The groups are in opposition to the overall policies of the IMF/WB committees. The meetings are scheduled to be held from April 21 - 24, 2004 at the Headquarters Buildings' located in the immediate area of 18th St. & Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W. Washington, D.C. Additionally the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (March for Women's Lives) will demonstrate exclusively on April 25, 2004. The demonstrations are all about Pro-Life and Pro-Choice issues. Traffic in the downtown area of Washington, D.C. overall will be impacted. However the areas that the demonstration/rallies will be focused on are as follows: The IMF/WB will be heavily impact the areas of Franklin Square, N.W. and 18th & Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W. Metropolitan Police Department will erect a security fence on 04/23/04 around the perimeter of the IMF/WB. The perimeter will be located in downtown N.W. Washington, D.C. The perimeter will cover 17th St. to 20th St. and will extend from "E" St. N.W. to "I" St. N.W. The main activities for the IMF/WB events are scheduled to take place on April 24, 2004. This perimeter will encompass the area of The IMF/WB. The March for Life will mainly focus on Dupont Circle and the Mall Area. This event will take place on April 25, 2004, it is scheduled to kickoff at 1200 Hours (Noon). The route for the march is as follows; From the Mall assembly point, North on 17th St. N.W. to the Ellipse, West on the Ellipse to 15th St. N.W., 15th St. North to Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., East on Penn Ave. to 7th St., South on 7th to the Mall and then dispersal. Both events could generate small disruptions by some dissidents. However, the authorities have stated that the disruptions will be minimal. Travel into these areas is being discouraged. If more urgent information is received, it will be quickly disseminated to all concerned agencies and or their representatives. As always, "Thanks" for your continued support and cooperation.
