  • need some intake help

i have a little problem, i am trying to make or buy a cold air intake for my 1994 trans am and i think the anti lock brake computer or something like that is in the way. i have the stock intake on with a k&n filter. is there any other place i could put and intake. because i cant fit anything around the anti lock brakes thing.

also what kind o power gains should i get from a new intake and a new mass air flow, i think i want the granately on for like 300$

well I am a late 4th gen owner (LS1) and know little about LT1s but dont they have an air box in the front too? Most folks go down to the front air dam for things like the cold air intakes. Fast toys Ram air system is a good example

All of the kits are made to go between the ABS pump and the radiator.

I don't see any other place to come out under the stock hood.

No they don't unless they have ram air like a TA.

            http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...RTNUMBER=21014

This is what I have and I wouldn't recomend it. Not that it is that bad but I had some problems installing it.

I'd like to know more about this one.

These are the only ones that I know of. If I was going to buy one right now, I would get the SLP but I would investigate the AS&M one first.

Oh I forgot the other half of your question.

The power gain from the intake is substantial. The stock box narrows to very small between the ABS pump and the radiator. I think most places list ithe gain as 15-20hp.

I don't think changing the MAF on a stock motor is going to net anything. Save your money for another mod.

After you do the intake, I would highly recommend doing a cat back exhaust. When I was researching mine, I found somewhere that said the stock muffler flowed like 225 CFM. Compare that to the intake that flows over 600 CFM and there is a massive problem. Granted one is a vacuum and the other is forced air but remember all an engine is is an air pump..

i also forgot to tell u guys that i have a flowmaster exhaust, so is it worth it for me to do a new catback or should i save my money for something else

I think you will get a varied response to that one. Some people say there is no horse power gain in the flowmaster but I know the flowmaster flows more than twice as much air as the stock muffler so I can't see how there wouldn't be a gain in it. Now if you compare it to a Corsa, or Borla, or SLP well they may be more but is it worth it. Not to me but other people may say yes.

Well my opinion is I go with what makes the most bang for the buck and do something else. I don't know what your goals are whether it is just pure acceleration or do you want a car that handles well. I just put a set of BMR sway bars on mine and there is a big difference in seat of the pants feel. The stock sway bars are awful. The front is hollow. I don't think there would be a seat of the pants gain with a better cat back.
