So after 50 trips to the mechanic, he has decided that my car has a bent axle shaft. Someone mentioned this on Lim's thread last week. So my question is, can I buy a new shaft in the aftermarket? Is there a stronger option? I really don't want to buy one from the dealer if I can get a better axle or a better price.

Thanx in advance for any help.

What does it take to install one? Pop the cover and remove a c-clip? Are there any special tools or skills involved?

Axles are fairly simple. Pull, the brakes, etc, and then pull the diff. cover, remove the c-clip, and the axle should come out. One of the repair manuals will give you a step by step. As long as you don't pull the carrier or pinion, it is pretty easy. The other isn't hard...just hard to shim and set the gears to a good pattern so it wears correctly.
