  • back from the track, not satisfied

hey i went to the drags today, not really satisfied, it was my first time, i notcied a small miss before i ran

    heres my times

1/4 time speed reaction time 60 ft.
    14.38 86.44 1.532 2.357
    14.333 98.57 .628 2.395
    14.531 97.4 .323 2.307
    14.55 97.77 .693 2.45

the miss got worse on this run

    15.46 80.69 .672 2.470
i thought mayb i jsut messed up so i ran again
    15.529 90.13 1.108 2.442
    and again
    15.794 90.03 .620 2.521

it kept getting worse, besides definite tractions problems (couldnt keep it straight till 3rd gear) it had a shaking miss feeling, i did plugs last nite, mayb the gap got messed up or a wire popped off, or i shorted it out, , felt like i was running on 7 cylinders i need to check all of this i know, but what else could cause it, and how can i get my et's down, besides way better tires?

I would say that your first set of times there look good with the exception of the 60 foot times. From the looks of it, when you get your launch squared away, you should be able to bring the 60ft time down which in turn will bring down the et.

Get that miss figured and Good luck next time out.

Hypertech 160 thermo, and Fan bypass to lower temps.

If it still has the stock suspension from 94.... Start replacing that

        TransGo shift kit

and.... probably time for a new cap/rotor, or opti. Scan it first, but if it seems to stumble, erratic idle, feels like 7cyls. Might just be opti

Get Ram Air, HTPP, and a 160 thermostat. You'll be running 13.9's or 14 flat. I have the exact same set up as you, but with Borla. I got a 13.98 @ 101 MPh. That was my best run.

            Fix the miss.
If you don't have it already, get a 160º thermostat.
            Ice the intake between runs.
            Sticky tires.
            Lower control arm relocation brackets.
            Aftermarket torque arm.
If you really want to launch, a converter and shift kit.

Right fix the miss, whatever it is. And the heat caused your increasing times, so ice the manifold like he says and wait 1-1/2 hours with the hood open to cool off between runs. A soft launch by brake torquing it to 1500 if possible & ease into the throttle with only half throttle at launch until it grabs, then floor it more slowly- you will have to experiment with that to get it right. All this will help your times and consistency. You have to finesse a car down the first 1/3 of the track when you don't have traction - Ask me how I know

my car is very close to yours, minus the TB bypass, intake elbow, airfoil, and new plugs/wires. mine also has 115,000 miles. I even had the flowmaster muffler.

                  my runs were...

                  Run 1
                  R/T .543
                  60’ 2.199
                  330’ 6.039
                  1/8 9.253
                  MPH 75.89
                  1000’ 12.049
                  ¼ 14.391
                  MPH 96.64

                  Run 2
                  R/T .479
                  60’ 2.225
                  330’ 6.068
                  1/8 9.246
                  MPH 76.94
                  1000’ 11.992
                  ¼ 14.301
                  MPH 97.78

                  Run 3
                  R/T .342
                  60’ 2.166
                  330’ 5.953
                  1/8 9.107
                  MPH 77.32
                  1000’ 11.845
                  ¼ 14.137
                  MPH 98.76

those are with bouncing off the rev limiter in the 2-3 shift.
your times aren't too far off from mine, if you had a better 60' time you would be beating me or even with me. What is it, every .1 off your 60' time results in a .15 off your et? if thats the case than you should run a 14 flat with a good 60' time.
good luck with the roughness though

Do some of the basic mods the others mentioned and fix the problems with the engine (if they are still there) and go back to the track.

Work on your launch and try to be consistent. When you feel that you have that mastered and it doesn't get any better, add more power gradually and work with it.

                    That's what I would do.
